Lagos APC faults PDP on allegation against Fashola

For the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the recent diatribe against the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola by the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was diversionary and deceptive.
The PDP chairman, Mr Tunji Shelle had at a gathering tagged: “Annual General Meeting AGM of the Lagos PDP” lauded the performance of the President Goodluck Jonathan and criticized the Fashola-led administration.
But the APC spokesman in the Centre of Excellence, Mr Joe Igbokwe, accused the PDP chair of sailing against the tide, alleging that the purported AGM was specifically staged to divert attention from the failure of the PDP at the centre.
He said it was illogical to praise a central government that was fast losing the grip on the National Assembly, pointing out that the opposition has a simple majority in the lower legislative chamber with the defection of 37 House of Representatives from the ruling party to the APC.
Igbokwe alleged that organising such a forum has become the trademark of Mr Shelle since he became the chairman of the PDP in Lagos.
In statement, the APC scribe said: “In his empty speech at the meeting, Shelle left no one in doubt that it was a gathering slated for the special purpose of appeasing President Goodluck Jonathan. The event was specially packaged to sell President Goodluck Jonathan and not a real AGM for serious-minded organisation.
“It was an event paid for by GEJ and solely for the purpose of telling the world that President Jonathan is the best God ever created for Nigeria. The meeting was not a platform for strategic thinking, creative approach to politics or synergistic momentum but a phantom platform for political idiocy and brigandage.” Contd..

According to Igbokwe, the allegation of corruption levelled against the Fashola administration was to justify the funds being collected by the PDP from Abuja, saying the opposition party lacked the moral latitude to accuse the APC government of financial impropriety.
The APC scribe described as wishful for the PDP to think it could curry the sympathy of Lagos electorate with cheap blackmail, pointing out that the sophisticated Lagosians know which party serves their interest better.
Igbokwe said the on-going drifting of the ruling party has made a mess of an earlier boast that the PDP would rule the country for five unbroken decades.
His words: “At a time the so-called biggest party in Africa is fighting the biggest battle for survival, the Alibaba and the forty thieves (PDP) is celebrating falsehood. At a time Shelle’s PDP has become the opposition in the House of Reps in Abuja, Lagos PDP still thinks it has some honour left.
“At a time a peaceful and bloodless revolution is sweeping Shelle’s PDP away, Lagos PDP has failed to come to terms with the new realities on ground in Nigeria.”
Foreclosing the possibility of the PDP dislodging the APC in Lagos, the publicity secretary of the APC asked rhetorically: “Can a blind man lead a man with eyes? Can a car move forward by engaging the reverse gear? Can you fly an aircraft without the engine or aviation fuel? I am told that you can manufacture a thousand lies just to cover one truth but the truth still has a way of coming out to torment you?
“Lagos APC and indeed all APC States in Nigeria have shown that they have clear understanding of how to drive leadership and their works speak for them.
“Governor Fashola’s legacies in Lagos are standing tall for all eyes to see and I am sure that wise Lagosians can see it clearly now.”
