"The Fosters" returned to ABC Family last Monday with one character making a heartbreaking choice.
The episode picked up after Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena's (Sherri Saum) wedding, but right before they realized that their foster daughter, Callie, (Maia Mitchell) had run away.
The newlyweds woke up on the day after their wedding, unaware that Callie was missing. After they discovered that she was gone, they went on a search to locate the troubled teen.
Callie ran away with Wyatt, with intentions of making it on her own. But she had second thoughts after she realized that she couldn't get hired because she has no identification, address or phone.
They eventually tracked her down, with help from Wyatt (Alex Saxon), but Callie slipped out on her own yet again.
Callie realized that her father had gotten out of prison a year ago and never contacted her. Feeling angry and alone, she made the drastic decision to get thrown back in to the juvenile delinquent system. She angered a store manager just enough for them to call the cops, which was a way of surrendering.
Meanwhile, Mari (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin) became upset when they realized Lexi (Bianca A. Santos) has to leave the country. She told them that her father's status as an undocumented immigrant was discovered, so he was fired from his job. Her parents are tired of living in fear, so they have decided to move back to Honduras, meaning she has to move back as well.
On the next episode, "House and Home," "A stern foster-care worker supervises Callie. Meanwhile, Brandon searches for Callie after he confesses why she ran away; Mariana gets involved with the school play; and Jesus struggles with his new medication and tries out for the wrestling team."
On the next episode, Brandon will confess his love for Callie to the family, and Callie will be in lockdown at a group home run by guest star Rosie O'Donnell.
"Callie's not able to leave the house except for particular reasons," star Maia Mitchell told TVLine. "And she's just been in trouble, so she's just been told that her family won't be able to come and visit, so she won't be able to see Jude."
Mitchell continued, saying "she's not feeling the greatest, and then Brandon drops the 'I love you' bomb to the family and doesn't know what else to do, so he comes and tries to visit Callie."
In other "Fosters" news, Jamie McShane, known for playing Sgt. Hill on TNT cop drama "Southland" and an IRA gunrunner in "Sons of Anarchy" will be joining the ABC Family series.
McShane will join the series in a recurring role as Callie and Jude's father.
His character was incarcerated for killing his children's mother in a drunk driving accident. Executive Producer Peter Paige told TVLine "Callie found out in the season premiere that he's been out of prison for a year and hadn't reached out to them, so she's wondering where he is and if he's done with them forever."
Paige hinted that McShane may be around for multiple seasons.
"As we move forward with this idea that Jude and Callie are going to be adopted, they have to get parental rights signed off on, so...." he teased.
McShane has also appeared in CBS' "Vegas" and "My Name is Earl."
