6 times an Obama speech made us stop and say ‘wow’

They set the frame for the Democratic National Convention's most important moment: Clinton's speech Thursday night.

The truth about Dbanj’s marriage

Is popular pop singer, Dbanj married or not? Ever since social media went agog with the news that Dbanj had finally quit bachelorhood, this question has become the most asked among fans of the Kokomaster as he is fondly called.

Penultimate week, bloggers went to town with news that the pop singer got married to Lineo Kilgrow, who is reportedly an undergraduate of the University of Abuja.

To some, the news is a big deal while to others, it is an attempt by Dbanj to attract more attention to himself and ultimately, his music.

Why I quit gospel music – Simi

Have always wanted to do music?

I didn’t grow up around a lot of music because my parents aren’t music inclined. I wrote my first song when I was 10 years old. I have a very short attention span and it is one of the reasons why I experiment a lot with my music. My parents separated when I was nine years old, so I did not spend so much time with my dad; he died in 2014. My parents were quite supportive of my career at first. After I bagged a degree in Mass Communication, from Covenant University, my mother wanted me to get some job experience by working with an oil firm. I have always been of the opinion that its impossible to do music part-time, so I asked her to pray for the success of my music career.

How did being raised by a single mum feel?

I recall that my siblings and I visited my dad during weekends and at some point, the frequency reduced. I felt bad whenever I saw my peers with their parents and I had a mature mind as a young girl growing up. My parents’ separation left an impression on me that life isn’t always a bed of roses. It also made me realise the need to work harder to achieve my dreams.

How else did the experience shape you?

Moment of Truth

God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Psalm 63:1-2  (KJV).

We face several things that depletes our strength everyday: from driving in traffic to handling an angry boss, to a rude customer who believes he is right and to attending to the need of your spouse and children. Handling all these could be exhausting.

Moment of Truth

And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. Matthew 14:23 (NKJV)

If you want to move into a new territory in your life, it is imperative that you decide exactly who is at the driver’s seat: Is it going to be you, or is it going to be GOD? The answer will determine how effectively you pray. Jesus always moved under the Holy Spirit’s influence. His disciples witnessed Him healing people, casting out demons, and performing many other miracles, and they wanted to know how these things happened.

They recognized that Jesus had a source of power they didn’t have. They also saw Him frequently go to a private place to pray, and throughout His days on earth, they saw that the life and power of GOD was infused in Him. They obviously realised there was a connection between power and prayer because they didn’t ask Him to teach them how to get power but how to pray. In the place of prayer, we exchange our weakness with GOD's strength and we are better equipped to fulfill GOD's intent on earth.

Bank of England Rate Cut in Focus as Brexit Rattles Economy

It’s the most hotly anticipated Bank of England decision for years.
After the shock of Britain’s Brexit vote rattled the economy and Governor Mark Carney said easing will probably be needed this summer, investors are betting the central bank will cut interest rates for the first time since 2009.
The nine-member Monetary Policy Committee announces its decision at noon in London on Thursday. Thirty of 54 economists asked by Bloomberg predict a reduction, with the majority of those seeing a cut to a record-low 0.25 percent. Still, a lack of data on the outlook means 24 of those surveyed see no change this month.

‘Nigeria spends $11bn yearly on food importation’

At the event, organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Olayiwole Onasanya, said Nigeria’s importation rate was worrisome.

Moment of Truth

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Jude 1:20 (KJV).

A key is of no use to us if we do not use it to unlock anything. If a car key doesn’t connect with the ignition, the power of the engine will not be ignited. GOD’s power is always available to us, but if we don’t use the key of prayer, we can’t
appropriate this power in our lives.

We sometimes forget where we put the keys to our car, the same is true with our prayer life. People often hesitate to pray because they do not understand the power of the Holy Spirit working through them when they do so. Prayer should not be an emergency resolve but a daily necessity in our  life's toolkit. As we take the time to wait on GOD in prayer, HE refreshes us and our strength is renewed in HIS Presence.

Saying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but [always] Yours be done. And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit. Luke 22:42-43 (AMP)

While we live on earth, we are bound to face situations that will drain us of our strength. Christ also had a similar experience and for Him to fulfill the expectations that His Father had for Him, He needed to be strengthened to accomplish His assignment successfully.

For every season that we face and for every new assignment that we have to accomplish, whether a physical or spiritual assignment, we need to fill up our tanks. No car can run on an empty tank. At the point where all seemed overwhelming, Jesus Christ went before the Father and His strength was renewed. Learn from His example, make it a habit to always acknowledge your helplessness before the Father and He will show up ready to get you fortified and capable.

Moment of Truth

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
John 6:63 (KJV)

In carrying out our daily activities, we grow empty through hunger and that necessitates that we fill up with substantial nourishment. Just as the six classes of food are essential to our physical wellness so also is the Word of GOD essential to our spiritual wellness.

Prophet Ezekiel was among the captives at River Chebar and as GOD'S word came to Him GOD's hand was upon him, that means when GOD's Word hits our Spirit-man, there is a renewal of strength. Words are not mere sound, words are Spirit. You must therefore in your day to day activities create and carry an atmosphere suitable for GOD to speak and for you to hear because when GOD speaks, doubt dies, our faith is energised and our strength renewed.

Police arrest at least 40 people protesting Alton Sterling's death in Baton Rouge

Majority of the arrests took place at Government St. near Interstate 110 after neighbors said scores of protesters refused to budge from the roadway and front yards along East Blvd for at least two hours.

Police believed the group of about 100 to 200 people, who were cornered by police outside a home, intended to block the highway, hence their decision to arrest them and also allegedly beat youths who refused to give in to arrest.

Five ways to reduce your bank charges

Many customers open different accounts with the same bank because they feel a single account may not be able to meet all their financial needs. Banks also woo customers to open many accounts by offering them different benefits with innovative products.

The bank accounts are usually designed to promote savings culture, provide credit facilities, enable the owner to conduct some specific transactions or achieve a certain goal. While some accounts allow limited number of services to be performed on them, others offer a wider range of services.

For instance, some may allow the owner to send money only within the same bank while others allow transfer to other banks or foreign destinations. A customer may enjoy the ability to pay for his regular bills and other subscriptions through some specific accounts.

Some customers also open different bank accounts because of the interest rates that they earn on them. While some banks make it easy for customers to open account, some may make it difficult when it comes to withdrawal. Customers therefore look for different accounts, which they feel could suit their lifestyles.

How Portugal beat France to win Euro 2016

Portugal won Euro 2016 after Eder’s superb extra-time strike gave them a 1-0 victory over hosts France in Paris, despite Cristiano Ronaldo coming off injured in the first half.

Former Swansea striker Eder, who came on as a late second-half replacement for Renato Sanches, struck low into the bottom corner past Hugo Lloris from 25 yards to hand Portugal their first-ever major tournament crown in dramatic fashion on Sunday.

Moment Of Truth

And then he told me, My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness. Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (AMP).

There's a limit to what our natural strength can do. When GOD gives us an assignment, He gives us the ability to carry it out. However, we need to constantly renew our strength by waiting on GOD; it is important we seek His face from time to time to draw strength.

Strength does not equate physical muscles or spiritual gymnastics; rather GOD's strength in us enables us to do what we naturally don't have the ability to do. GOD gives strength to everyone who seeks His face.

Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. Isaiah 33:2 (NIV)

Change is constant; we go from one season to another. With every new season, we need strength to successfully be, to courageously do and strategically accomplish what GOD desires.

There are decisions to be made, there are prayers to be said, chapters of the Bible to be studied, tasks to be accomplished, places to go, people to be encouraged, lives to be impacted and seeds to be sown. The strength to do all these and much more can only be gotten in the secret place.

Nigeria’s presidential jets are available for hire – Odigie-Oyegun

In this interview with JOHN ALECHENU, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, speaks about the challenges of managing the nation, President Buhari’s policies and other national issues. Excerpts

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party has accused your party of being responsible for its leadership crisis. How do you respond to this?

All I can say is that they cannot eat their cake and have it. When their factional chairman left us, they were celebrating, they were happy saying oh, we’ve got a big fish. Now that they see the kind of man he is, they are crying wolf. We have nothing to do with the travails of the PDP because in reality; we want a virile opposition. We want an opposition that is responsible, that has ideas to contribute. They have failed to do this so far. So, it is not of any value to us that they are heating up and that they are losing the little bit of the sense of direction they had left. They are just looking for a scape goat. We have absolutely no interest in what is going on in the PDP. If you recall, we once urged their members who were trooping into the APC -as soon as we won the election- to remain in their party to give us the kind of opposition that will strengthen our democracy. This shows we mean well for them. We asked them to go and re-engineer themselves and be as we were- a responsible opposition party. I just pray for them and hope that they will be able to rediscover themselves, to be able to start the process of rebuilding themselves. Maybe, it is even good that what is happening is happening, because it will give us the time to take the tough decisions that the country which they ruined requires.
