Mr. President, you need to give an order on Boko Haram NOW

                             goodluck-jonathan_2745283b
Mr President, there will be casualties, but there will be many more casualties if Boko Haram succeeds in imparting into those girls that their country doesn’t give a damn about them.

I woke up today to the rather sweet-and-sour news that the Cameroonian army successfully planned and executed the rescue of the wife of the Vice Prime Minister from her Boko Haram captors. Before you come all Hitler on me, I’ll do good to expound on what I mean when I say the news was sweet-and-sour. That the wife of the Vice Prime Minister of Cameroon was rescued without ransom and unscathed barely 48 hours after her kidnap is sweet news in itself, but let me bring you back home; our girls are still not free. You get the drift now right? I had virtually forgotten about our very own Chibok girls, till I came across that Cameroonian piece of news.

The travelling document was launched on Wednesday, 30 July, by President Goodluck Jonathan, shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He tasked officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service to protect the integrity of the passport by ensuring that it cannot be easily faked.

Jonathan also called on Nigerians to protect the image of the country by shunning uncomplimentary statements and actions.

Amosun while speaking with journalists after the Eid-l-fitr prayer at Lantoro prayer ground in Abeokuta, the state capital, says even though he will be contesting in 2015, he would never be part of such crude method.

Favour Nosakhare: Catching the bouquet

                                       aa bbb
”My friends and I had screamed ‘’BETRAYAL! Men are liars!’’ but the fact is, what if my friend wasn’t so cut up with the illusion of a perfect wedding and a perfect man?”

You know what they say about catching the bouquet? You will be the next to say ‘’ I do”. Well, Kate caught the bouquet when we went for a wedding, and that marked the beginning of never ending wedding plans that her friends, including me, had to put up with.

Her wedding dress must be from Vera Wang, the ring has to be a diamond bearing her birthstone, he must be incurably romantic, go after her with the right trappings in place, extremely financially secure … blah blah blah. Sometimes we wondered where she got all her criteria from. She was determined to walk the aisle before any of us, and she did, but not with a dress from Vera Wang.

Man From Nigeria Tested For Ebola In The UK - Health- SLB9ja

A man has been tested for ebola in the uk – increasing fears over the threat posed to Britain from the deadly disease.

He was tested at a hospital in Birmingham after arriving back in the uk from nigeria via Paris.

Fortunately the man was given the all-clear after tests, the Daily Mail reports, but the scare has sharpened focus on the possible spread of the virus to Britain.

Meanwhile, doctors fear ebola victim Patrick Sawyer may have sparked a worldwide spread of the killer disease after being allowed on two flights while infected.

Benue State Workers To Begin Strike Over Salary Deduction

Written by Hope Abah The Nigeria Labour Congress in Benue state is set to begin the mother of all strikes on Thursday following the deduction of its workers June salaries by the state government to enable it pay teachers' minimum wage.

The development is against the background of Governor Gabriel Suswam's appeal to cut down on state workers salaries in order to pay primary schools teachers who had resumed academic activities barely four weeks ago after an eight months old protracted strike to press home their demand for the minimum wage being enjoyed by other civil servants in the state. But, state chairman of NLC, Comrade Simon Anchaver today told Daily Trust in Makurdi that the workers never reached a compromise with government to deduct their salaries and as such the body would convey a meeting tomorrow to discuss the matter which would likely lead them to stay out of work in the days ahead.

"They (government) did that on their own. We have not agreed on anything yet and they just started deducting our salaries. After our meeting tomorrow, we will definitely go on strike," he said.

Doctor who treated more than 100 Ebola patients dies from the virus

The Sierra Leonean doctor who treated more than 100 Ebola patients has also died. Dr Sheik Umar Khan (pictured above), who was hailed as a national hero for disregarding his own health and helping sick patients, died today July 29th from the disease after being diagnosed with the virus last week. He contacted the virus despite wearing protective gear when treating patients.

In an interview last month, the 39yr old doctor had expressed fears for his life because of his constant contact with Ebola patients.

"I am afraid for my life. Health workers are prone to the disease because we are the
first port of call for somebody who is sickened by the disease. Even with the full
protective clothing you put on, you are at risk" He told Reuters

His death comes days after a senior doctor at Liberia's largest hospital, Samuel Brisbane, died on Saturday at an Ebola treatment centre in Monrovia. 3 nurses working in the same Ebola treatment centre alongside Khan also died from the disease last week. Several other medics have been infected.

Opinion: 7 reasons why Aregbesola will floor Omisore badly

                               Iwo-Campaign-35
Iyiola Omisore is not Peter Ayodele Fayose. He lacks the charisma of Fayose.
He is not a Jimi Agbaje. He lacks the character of Agbaje. He doesn’t have
the mass appeal even though he has the notoriety.
by Bayo Adeyinka

Friday, May 24, 2013. 35 governors gathered to vote for the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF). With the initial postponement and intrigues that surrounded it, it was going to be a night of long knives. With the Presidency interested in the outcome and with Governor Amaechi determined to give it another shot in spite of his open confrontation with the President, it was going to take more than ordinary determination to navigate the treacherous waters. It would take grit, uncommon courage and the ability to outfox the henchmen of the Presidency. At the entrance of the venue of the election, all the Governors were mandated to submit all their mobile phones. But one man particularly suspected there was going to be foul play so he sneaked in a pen camera. He recorded the vote counting surreptitiously until when Governor Godswill Akpabio noticed they were being secretly recorded. When controversy sprang up on the actual winner of the contest, he released the video to the public. The man who exposed the lie for what it was was Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Governor of Osun State.

The Importance Of Six Days Fasting Of Shawal- Islam for Muslims-SLB9ja

Prophet (SAW) said; he who observe fast throughout Ramadhan and then follow it up with six days fast of Shawal, is as if he has observed fast throughout the year. We are therefore, enjoined to observe Shitta Shawal before the end of Sharu Shawal.

The first day of Shawwāl is Eid al-Fitr. Some Muslims observe six days of fasting during Shawwāl beginning the day after Eid ul-Fitr since fasting is prohibited on this day. These six days of fasting together with the Ramadan fasts, are equivalent to fasting all year round. The reasoning behind this tradition is that a good deed in Islam is rewarded 10 times, hence fasting 30 days during Ramadan and 6 days during Shawwāl is equivalent to fasting the whole year in terms of reward.

Parents of Chibok girls allege foul play over N100 million largesse from the President

The sum of N100 million, allegedly given to parents of the abducted Chibok girls, has led to a serious disagreement within the Chibok community.

It was reported that the President had on July 22nd, released the funds to leaders of the Chibok community in Abuja for onward passage to parents of the kidnapped schoolgirls. But many of the supposed recipients are now crying foul play.

One of the male parents, was quoted to have said; “I got only N200,000 out of the said N100million allegedly received by our leaders in Abuja. Some of us got N300,000 and some less than that”.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the way the money was shared among the parents of the kidnapped girls as he was short-changed.

This piece was written by Joy Isi Bewaji, read it and lets know if you agree with her. Hmm!!!

 My Dear Bros,

I am tired of you whining about your girlfriend. What is it that you want? What are your expectations? She grew up in a city where “chop my money” by P-square is the soundtrack of our existence. She has Eldee singing, “ki lo fe, shey moto ni?” (what do you want, is it a car?); where Skuki is telling her to stop complaining that the sex is sore after obtaining a Prada purse; and Olamide is demanding that she “go down low” before she can get whatever expensive bric-a-brac she wants.

Red Bulls Rewind: Painting the Town Red

HARRISON, N.J. — Thierry Henry may or may not play in Major League Soccer beyond this season. That he could probably carry on, if he so desires, until he is 40 (he is now 36) is probably not the point.

On Saturday night at Red Bull Arena, the adulation that Henry accumulated in his years at Arsenal in north London and with the Red Bulls came cascading down from the capacity crowd of more than 25,000 fans — most of them wearing the red jerseys with white sleeves of the Gunners (even though the Arsenal players were wearing their new Puma alternate shirts of yellow and navy blue).

Before the game, Red Bulls supporters camped out in the stadium’s South Ward unfurled a banner in tribute to Henry. When Henry took a corner kick at the opposite end of the stadium, fans rose as one for a standing ovation, which Henry returned by clapping his hands over his head.

Global decline of wildlife linked to child slavery

                               _76496797_child-fishery
New research suggests the global decline in wildlife is connected to an increase in human trafficking and child slavery.

Ecologists say the shortage of wild animals means that in many countries more labour is now needed to find food. Children are often used to fill this need for cheap workers, especially in the fishing industry.

The decline in species is also helping the proliferation of terrorism and the destabilisation of regions.

According to a study in the journal, Science, the harvesting of wild animals from the sea and the land is worth $400bn annually and supports the livelihoods of 15% of the world’s population.

Ever since the female came to the realization that men can never stop being unfaithful.

Ever since they accepted the bitter truth that the phenomenon of infidelity, is an invincible, abnormal norm that might never waiver.

Ever since they embraced the stark, inconvenient and painful reality, they have silently joined the bandwagon. They have hopped aboard the ‘unfaithful express’, almost even trying to pilot the train.

Women,-for want of equality with men, and for their desire to prove that the saying, ”what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” hasn’t lost its meaning or essence- have made us aware, unannounced(action-wise) that if you can cheat, we also can cheat.

Five Fatal Flaws of Solar Energy

The sun is the most important energy source on Earth. Solar energy powers the growth of all trees, grasses, herbs, crops and algae; it creates the clouds and powers the storms; it is the source of all hydro, photo-voltaic (PV), solar-thermal, bio-mass, and wind energy. Over geological time, it also creates coal. PV solar panels are useful in remote locations and for some portable applications. With enough panels and batteries, standalone solar can even power homes. But solar energy has five fatal flaws for supplying 24/7 grid power. Firstly, sunshine at any spot is always intermittent and often unreliable. Solar panels can deliver significant energy only from 9am to 3pm – a maximum of 25% of each day. Solar can often help supply the hot afternoon demand for air conditioning, but demand for electricity generally peaks at about 6:30pm, when production from solar is usually zero.

Japheth Omojuwa: So, General Buhari tried to kill himself?

Had we lost the General, the reaction from his supporters and fanatics could easily have plunged Nigeria into its worst chaos in a long time.

Nigeria is a land of the absurd, the strange and the illogical. So last Wednesday, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) organized to kill himself? Well, that is what those who see Nigeria through the lens of the 2015 elections want us to believe. There are many things wrong with politics and politicians in Nigeria but General Buhari is well and truly above that. Even his opponents admit he is well and truly above board when it comes to the shame and corruption that accompany Nigerian politics. There was clearly a suicide bomber and the bomber was obviously desperate to ensure the retired General was part of his eventual carnage. The incident has since happened, scores have died and Nigerians in their usual way have moved on. Had we lost the General, the reaction from his supporters and fanatics could easily have plunged Nigeria into its worst chaos in a long time.

The plane, an MD-83, has 110 passengers on-board with 2 pilots and four crew members. Air Algerie is Algeria's national airline.

173 passengers escape death as plane catches fire at Kano Airport

173 Turkish passengers escaped death by whiskers at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Wednesday night (11pm), when a Turkish Airline plane caught fire while fueling.

It took the prompt intervention of the fire service at the airport to avert what could have been a major disaster.

An airport personnel who claimed anonymity disclosed that the fuel tanker was partly razed and the aircraft “slightly damaged”.

“It was God who saved the aircraft. Men of the Airport Fire Service mobilised to the scene immediately. The good thing was that the fuelling was through a tanker, which partially caught fire but the fire was promptly put out, if it was underground fuelling, it would have been a disaster.” he said.  Continue..

Dogs too are Capable of Feeling Jealous, Says a New Study

Jealously is not an emotion confined to human beings alone, dogs too can feel jealous though at a more basic level which, according to researchers, might have evolved to protect social bonds against intruders.

The subject of whether jealously is as a result of complex cognition that can only be attained by humans has been a source of debate among researchers.

In a study published in the journal PLOS ONE, University of California researchers set out to study the emotion in the canines.  Continue...

Nigerian 419 Email Scammers Shift to Malware and Hacking

Remember those ubiquitous, grammatically challenged emails promising you a huge sum of money if you helped a wealthy foreigner extract his multimillion-dollar fortune from his homeland? Well, some of the same folks behind that world-famous Nigeria 419 scam (the number refers to the section of the Nigerian criminal code dealing with fraud, though not all the emails originated from that country) have apparently moved up in the cybercrime world.

A new report this week from network security company Palo Alto Networks says individuals who previously operated 419 scams from Nigeria have begun launching slightly more sophisticated attacks using malware and learning new tactics on Internet hacking forums. The goal is to get the recipient to click on an email attachment so the hackers can take control of the recipient’s computer and steal passwords and other personal data that they can use for financial gain.

In the past, the main target of Nigerian scammers has been wealthy, unsuspecting individuals, but recent attacks indicate they are now targeting businesses. “This represents an emerging threat for many businesses,” the report concludes.

Odera Okakpu: Not That Kind of Girl

They are everywhere. In fact if there were ever a truthful advert of the popular things in Abuja, “runz girls” would be one of them. ‘Runz’ , a word which does not exist in any dictionary, is the Nigerian slang that refers to exchanging sexual favors for financial lifestyle changes.

Since I started visiting the FCT, and now that I live here as a member of the National Youth Corps Service, more often than not, someone does or says something to insinuate that I am one of the runz girls.

Initially I was offended, downright insulted. What was it about my carriage and composure that would have anyone assume I was into exchanging my body for money? Although, to be fair, there is nothing obvious to the eye about this form of prostitution; it is more like corporate prostitution. Some of these girls are aptly educated and properly cultured. Close observation finally led me to realize that the prettier, fresher, more taken care of you looked, the more people felt it wasn’t of your own doing. Sometimes, the insinuations come as a compliment considering the deplorable conditions of my life as a “bloody corper”.

In a swift reaction, a statement signed on behalf of the ARD President Kaduna was sent out directing all doctors around the central area of kaduna to assemble immediately at Barau Dikko Specialist hospital to attend to the injured and dying.

You would recall that Doctors in Nigeria have been on strike for over three weeks now with efforts to get them back to work not yet successful.

Before I experience any movie, I remind myself that I am not special. The entire film team did not harbour special consideration for my preferences; and most importantly, not every movie would give you cause to think deeply and have such a profound effect it causes you to temporarily change your perception of everything. Some movies are simply meant to be enjoyed at the moment and forgotten at the moment the final credits stop rolling. Continue...

James Rodriguez! Volley against Uruguay named best goal of 2014 World Cup

James Rodriguez’s first goal against Uruguay, in their 2-0 win over Colombia at the 2014 World Cup, has been picked as the Goal of the Tournament.

The 23-year-old who is expected to complete a move to Real Madrid shortly, controlled a stray header on his chest, before turning to volley the ball past the keeper from 20 yards.

Rodriguez went ahead to double his country’s lead with a simple tap-in, as they qualified for the quarter-final stage, where they eventually lost 2-1 to hosts Brazil.

The midfielder ended the competition with six goals and landed the Golden Boot award ahead of Germany’s Thomas Muller. he also becomes the third successive South American winner of the award for best goal, after Maxi Rodriguez and Diego Forlan won it in 2006 and 2010 respectively.

For young people, this is how to remove the stigma of failure

As a nation, we are at the point where we need people who will take tremendous risks in the                       economy to break barriers, build industries and cause this nation to fulfill its potential. People will                   fail when they take risk. This is as inevitable as the sun rising.

In Nigeria, there is an unwritten rule amongst the successful. And this rule is golden. Never admit to past failures. Admitting such a thing is a blemish on your present success and it is only your haters that will dig into your past to bring up such evil. If someone so much as point out a past failure, attack the person or unleash your voltrons on them. They are the enemies of your current success, truncaters of your plenty. So when successful people share their life stories, they paint pictures of a straight line to success, no faltering or failing. In fact, we are so conditioned to seeing past failure as a terrible thing of shame that when we want to hurl abuse at a person succeeding at the moment, we simply call them failed this or that.

There are two sets of people you should never ask for advice – especially business advice.

The first is your unemployed brother-in-law.

 The second is an “expert”.

My parents initially didn't want me to marry Soyinka'- wife opens up on love story

Wife of Prof. Wole Soyinka, Folake Soyinka recently opened up on their love story in an interview with The News magazine where she revealed how she and the Nobel laureate met and her parents initial objection to their relationship.

"There were objections from everywhere except from my sisters and brother who were happy if I was. I also had the support of his siblings here. My parents along with most of my relatives objected, not because of anything, they just felt he was too famous and too accomplished. They worried about that. But within a few months after we were married, my parents had changed their mind and they loved him until they passed away. His close friends didn't have a problem with it but also everyone had an opinion. Then came the Nobel Prize in 1986 and that derailed everything for a couple of years. More than a quarter of a century later, those opinions didn't count, we are still trudging along. I have enjoyed love because of him" she said.

Apollo 11: Looking Back at the First Moon Landing 45 Years Ago

Former NASA engineers reminisce about the Apollo 11 moon mission, its historic landing and its amazing accomplishments in interviews with eWEEK. Forty-five years ago this weekend, humans landed on the moon for the first time as astronauts from the Apollo 11 spaceflight began exploring the lunar surface on July 20, 1969.

NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin spent only a few hours on the moon on that first voyage, but their accomplishment still stands tall more than four decades after humans first visited another celestial body, far from the bonds of Earth.

The optimism among the show’s audience finds expression in its unequalled rate of productivity. In its class, the show stands head and shoulder above competition having contributed immensely to the increase in the talent base of the sub region’s music industry. That is, essentially, remarkable.

Shakira is the Most Liked Person on Facebook

Shakira is officially the most liked woman in the world.

Well, when Facebook – which has millions of users around the world, more than a country’s population – you pretty much are the most liked.

On Friday, the Grammy-award Colombian sensation became the first person ever to reach 100 million likes on Facebook.

“I am honored and humbled about reaching this milestone. Social media and specifically Facebook has helped myself and other artists bridge the gap between the stage and the audience.”, the 37-year-old said. Even Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook congratulated the star, saying “Congrats! What an amazing milestone for an amazing person” on the singer’s page.

Femi Aribisala: The sacrifice of fools

The kingdoms of men are built on the injustice of sacrifices. We build kingdoms on the blood of others.

To sacrifice the valuable, Jesus would have had to give up his eternal life in heaven.

God said to the Israelites: “What do I care about incense from Sheba or sweet calamus from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please me.” (Jeremiah 6:20). It is not surprising therefore that Solomon also says: “Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.” (Ecclesiastes 5:1). Christians would do well to heed these counsels.

Steve Oliyide: Education is suffering in Ogun state

If late Chiefs Obafemi Awolowo and Bisi Onabanjo were to be alive, definitely it is not
likely they would have reduced the concept of ‘free education’ to this sharing of bags
and books which are outside, nor cover current curriculum in schools as it is being
celebrated by agents of the new government in Ogun State.

Obviously since the former governor of Ogun State raised an issue about the construction of bogus Model schools by his successor in office as a misplaced priority and a needless waste of public funds, there seem to be no end to attempts by some, especially appointed officials serving under the new government, either directly or by proxies of NGOs to stir the hornet’s nest. The veiled attempts to justify the education policy of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led government then became issues, like opening a new vista into looking at the performance index under two different political administrations in Ogun State.

Chimamanda Adichie: The miraculous deliverance of Oga Jonathan

As soon as he opened his eyes, he felt it. A strange peace, a calm clarity. He stretched. Even his limbs were stronger and surer. He looked at his phone. Thirty-seven new text messages – and all while he was asleep. With one click, he deleted them. The empty screen buoyed him. Then he got up to bathe, determined to fold the day into the exact shape that he wanted. Continue...

Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother claims she tried to 'abort' the footballer

Inside her recently released autobiography Mãe Coragem (which translates to ‘Mother Courage’) , mother of Critiano Ronaldo, Dolores Aveiro, claimed that she attempted to abort him when she was pregnant by 'drinking warm beer' and 'running until she dropped'

Although she did not give any reason for wanting to abort her unborn child, Dolores said she had approached her doctor to carry out the abortion but he didn't agree with it and refused to do it. She then resorted to doing it herself by drinking warm beer and running with the hope that she would lose the pregnancy.

"I wanted to abort but the doctor didn’t support my decision,” she wrote in her autobiography.

Speaking at the launch of the autobiography in Lisbon, Dolores said that Ronaldo already knew about his past and even joked about it. "“He told me when he found out, 'Look mum, you wanted to abort me and now I'm the one who’s pulling the purse-strings in the house,'” she said..

Why Microsoft is killing Nokia X

New York: The Nokia X phones that Microsoft discontinued this week blend two rival operating systems, but leave out the best of each. As a result, the devices didn't become a runaway hit as Nokia's low-cost answer to serving emerging markets.

Nokia X phones were devised to be a gateway to the company's pricier Lumia phones. The operating system that runs the phones was to blend the core technology found in Google's Android system with services and designs found in Microsoft's own Windows Phone system. Nokia looked to Android as a way to sell phones with locally tailored apps unavailable on Windows.

Many years ago, Ms. Bradshaw wisely told us, “no matter how hard your breakup is… you can’t get through it without your friends”. While heartache is a lot of ice cream and drinking, we know for a fact that you would never survive your own wedding without this one person by your side – Your best friend; but sure we can see why you thought we’d say the groom.
Here are 8 things your best friend does for your wedding. And why she rocks!!

10 Facts About Pregnancy After Age 35 - Health - SLB9ja

There’s a lot of debate over women having babies past the age of 35. However, it’s not that uncommon. In fact, one in 10 babies born to women over 35-years of age are born with zero complications to mom or baby.

However, doctors and midwives take extra precaution with pregnant women over 35 as they can be more susceptible to certain health concerns such as gestational diabetes, miscarriages, and delivering a baby with chromosomal abnormalities (i.e., Down syndrome). Here are ten facts to keep in mind if you plan to give birth past age 35…

1. Greater Risk of Pregnancy Complications

Women who get pregnant past the age of 35 are more prone to developing certain complications during pregnancy—most commonly gestational diabetes and high blood pressure. However, regular doctor’s appointments and quality prenatal care will help monitor and control both conditions if they arise during pregnancy.

Aircraft Carrying US Soldiers Make Emergency Landing On A Highway In Uganda

An aircraft carrying U.S. military personnel today has made an emergency landing in the middle of a highway after running out of fuel, Ugandan police said.

The Piper aircraft with eight people on board, including two crew members was returning to Uganda's Entebbe International Airport when it had to make an emergency landing in Mityana town, some 67 kilometers (about 41 miles) from the Ugandan capital of Kampala. No one was hurt and the aircraft wasn't damaged, but motor traffic flow was seriously disrupted.

The said aircraft was initially heading to South Sudan but it couldn't land there and had to return to Uganda. It was not immediately clear why the pilot could not land in South Sudan.

10 compliments ALL guys love to hear

Most people don’t really like their jobs, and the fact that they spend a lot of their life there is pretty depressing. Hearing you say you’re actually jealous of what they do for a living is a great pick-me-up.

 1. “You smell great, like a lumberjack that rolled around in a puddle of Nutella.”

If there’s one thing romantic comedies have drilled into guys’ heads, it’s that they need to smell like fresh sandalwood and boysenberries so that when they inadvertently leave their shirt at their girlfriends’ house, she can spend all day smelling it and staring at the ceiling and pining for them. It makes guys feel really good when you act like they smell like anything other than Irish Springs bar soap.  Continue...

Amaka is the type of girl who is ready to be whatever you want her to be, as long you have whatever she wants (cars, houses, containers, chieftaincy titles etc). Amaka is likely to be naturally light skinned, hairy and quite pretty, she loves shiny clothes and red lipstick. Amaka is also likely to have a little problem with pronouncing words that start with the letters R and L, she is homely and very peaceful (until you take her for granted). Her weaknesses are self-composure and esteem as she is easily intimidated by classier woman (hence making the very loud Amaka become an introvert) … But one good thing Amaka would leave you with is hunger for her meals.

The speaker said this yesterday July 15th while receiving the leadership of the #BringBackOurGirls campaigner in his office at the House of Assembly.

So let's get these girls out and then if you want to confront them you go ahead and confront them and take them head on but whatever we need to do, we must do as a government to bring back these girls safely & alive" he said.

Wole Soyinka reveals how he almost killed himself with his father’s gun at 10

Professor Wole Soyinka who recently turned 80, has said his glorious life would have been cut short when he ignorantly pulled the trigger of his father’s dane gun 70 years ago.

“I used to go with my father when he hunted. It was a mere air gun, but was good enough for squirrels, the wild pigeon and occasional rabbit. I was just curious. One day, I sat in the house’s frontage waiting for him to come out of his bedroom, so I could accompany him.”

“I just felt there was something about that part of his gun which he used to pull. I tried the same motion and it just exploded; but he knew it was his fault so he never chided me. He knew he should never have left that gun loaded and he knew me enough to know that I had learnt that lesson and I didn’t need to be reminded of it. Of course, there was a sort of mutual standoff; I was not rebuked but he knew I was not going to do it again.”

Barcelona ‘convinced’ FIFA will reduce Suarez’s ban

Barcelona are seeking to have Luis Suarez’s ban reduced and the La Liga giants are “convinced” it will happen.

Suarez, who completed his move from Liverpool this week, has been banned by FIFA for four months and nine international games, after he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Uruguayan striker has already failed with an appeal, but his country’s FA are set to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“We are supporting the appeal being made by the Uruguayan Federation and are convinced that Fifa’s initial sanction will be reduced,” Barca president Bartomeu, told the club’s official website.

Opinion: Nigeria- A country where wrong is proven right

My fear is not the right or wrong but tomorrow, how will tomorrow fair if the air we breathe today is filled with lies, deceit, corruption or should I call it “common stealing” as GEJ described it. To understand Nigeria, you must throw away notions like certainty and consensus.

Instand, you have to accept you are entering a world where all truth is relative, all fats are transient and what seems to be the most visceral and bloody reality can ultimately be revealed as artifice. It’s about power, power and the construction of truth” – Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Have you read the news headlines lately? If you’ve not been reading them, I will advise you stay away from it because it will ruin something within if you don’t have a rocky core like me. It’s amazing, totally amazing the way things are in Nigeria.

I am proud to be a Nigerian, grateful to be in this generation but totally ashamed to be an adult at this time, season and days when wrong is right and right is wrong.

8 reasons why you shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ too soon

Believe us, the best parts of a relationship are the early beginnings where this is a certain amount of uncertainty in the minds of both partners. Going weak in the knees just looking at her, getting goose bumps every time she touches you, spending nights talking to each other over the phone – all this, once lost may never come back.
Now we know you’re head over heels over the girl you met last week. No matter how good the first few dates went by, no matter how ‘compatible’ you have begun to feel already, you must not hurry into saying those three words – not just yet. While you may be totally into her already, she may need some time to think about where your relationship is heading. There is a correct time for everything, and before that, you must not overwhelm her by saying ‘I Love You’. Here are 8 reasons why you must never say those three words too soon.
1. It Kills The Excitement

Going weak in the knees just looking at her, getting goose bumps every time she touches you, spending nights talking to each other over the phone – all this, once lost may never come back. By saying ‘I Love You’, you put a full stop to this excitement.

20 mistakes everyone makes in their 20s

Friends of mine who were with the same guy all through their twenties are lamenting it now. Before you settle down, you gotta get some strange. To truly appreciate the good men, you have to road test the bad ones.
1. Not getting enough sleep.
“But Anna,” you ask, “How can I sleep when there are so many mistakes to make?!” Don’t worry, you have an entire decade’s worth of days and evenings to irrevocably fuck up your life. (1.5. Not washing the pillowcases often enough. Once a week, or else your skin will suffer.)
2. Being addicted to social media.

9 Baby Names Banned By Governments - Family- SLB9ja

Sometimes parents go over board in naming their child. Sometimes its not the parents, but the government. Here are a list of baby names that are banned by governments. Would you attempt naming your child any of these?
 1. 007
Sorry to those parents in Malaysia, you can’t just go around naming your child a “James Bond” icon. Better luck with a different name.

 2. Chow Tow
In English you may think this has something to do with chowing down some food, but in fact the name translated from Cantonese means smelly head. Why would a parent want to name their child this? Do they have to think their child has a smelly head?

7 things ALL women are insecure about in bed

Black-Couple-in-Bed- YNaija
Just like he has a sexual past, so do you. We have behaviors in bed that have been ingrained in us from past men, that we may not even realize are there. But, does he?? Is it clear that somebody clearly taught us to do that, THAT way?
Next time you’re watching professional Adult Videos (if that’s something you’re into) just remember the camera person knows just what angles make the female look the hottest. The female herself isn’t really enjoying herself so she can actually think about every little movement she makes, and some moments of the, um, encounter were left out of the finished production altogether. If only we had such finesse in our own sex lives. Luckily, real couples have a lot more fun, but these uncomfortable dynamics still exist
Angles
Any time a woman isn’t simply on her back, the risk of all sorts of issues arises: the appearance of a double chin, flattened breasts, visible tummy roll and the list really goes on. No matter how perfect your body is or how gorgeous you are, we all become victim to unflattering angles in certain sexual positions.
