D’Banj is all for the profit

Singer Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo known as D’Banj is currently making headlines on social media with his revelation at the recently held Social Media Week which began on February 26, 2018.

According to the Koko Master, he has set his mind not to embark on any tour until he is certain that there is enough for him to say it was a success and profit-making. “I will go on tour in Nigeria when I know there is profit in it, not just to satisfy fans and go home broke,” he stated.

What Spotify must do to survive

The fact that Spotify exists at all is something of a minor miracle: unknown Swedish company convinces major record labels to upload millions upon millions of songs for people to listen to without buying them. It must have been quite the pitch.
Sure, the labels get royalties but it's pennies - fractions of pennies - on what they used to get from "traditional" online sales.
Regardless, it's been clear for a long time that streaming is the music industry's future.
On Wednesday, Spotify announced it would go public - but that's not to say it is here to stay. The company has long been surrounded by threats, and it's no different today.
Apple, Amazon and Google are also in the streaming game and - unlike Spotify - all sell devices on which consumers can listen to music.
And while Spotify has signed deals with all the "big three" record labels - Warner, Universal and Sony - it is the music executives that still hold the bargaining chips.
Even if Spotify has been able to negotiate a lower per-listen payment, the combined cost of paying out royalties only ever follows one trajectory: up.

Lawyer, Leadership Consultant & Good Governance Advocate! Timi Olagunju is #BellaNaijaMCM this Week

From his university days, #BellaNaijaMCM this week, Timi Olagunju, has been involved in leadership and service. He ran for Chairman of the largest undergraduate hostel in the University of Ibadan at the time, amidst concerns that he was too young to lead.

These worries were heightened considering that there was no Student Union body at the time and Timi would also provide leadership for the university. Through what he described as “a campaign of love,” Timi won the election. A year later, after his tenure, Time was nominated for the UI ‘JCI’ award for outstanding leadership of Halls and Faculties, and awarded the Hon. Chris Asoluka Award for Most Politically Productive Student in the University of Ibadan as well as the Professor H.O. Nottidge Award for Selfless Leadership.

Timi didn’t have it easy in his life. At age 10, Timi’s father left, his mother lost her job, and he was forced to finish his primary education in a barely functioning public school. At some point, even as a child, Timi had to sell ice-cream on the streets of Akoka.

Black Panther Celebrates Black Excellence

So, I finally saw the Black Panther movie (by Ryan Coogler) a few days ago! My first attempt a day earlier was not so successful as tickets were sold out for the 7.15pm time slot. And this was after almost one week since its release.

What do I think of the film? I can tell you that it lives up to the hype and more. Suffice it to say that I went to watch Black Panther determined to enjoy it. As I have preached to everyone who would listen, there are periods for just recognising and appreciating that something momentous has happened. Black Panther, the movie, is one of such landmark moments.

You do realise that Black Panther is more than just another movie from the Marvel Comics Universe. Ryan Coogler, the 31-year-old director had a point to prove. And he set about stamping his authorial authority on the movie, superhero tag notwithstanding. I think those who call it a “love letter to Africa” are on to something.

He loved ‘Black Panther’ comics as a kid. Then Marvel asked him to write a novel for the movie.

Jesse Holland grew up devouring Marvel comic books about Black Panther King T’Challa, who ruled the mythical African kingdom of Wakanda.”

So when Marvel called the 46-year-old Washington journalist and author to write the companion novel to the studio’s blockbuster movie, “The Black Panther,” Holland was thrilled.

“It was the culmination of a life-long dream for me,” said Holland. “I’ve always wanted a chance to help mold some of the great Marvel superheroes and to do that with the Black Panther, one of the first comic book characters I ever read, was incredible.”

Holland, who works by day as a reporter covering race and ethnicity for The Associated Press, wrote the novel , “Who is the Black Panther?” by night, in the basement of his house in Bowie, Md., where he lives with his wife, Carol, his 9-year-old son, Jamie, 11-year-old daughter, Rita, and their dog “Woodson Oblivious.”

How I Went From A Broke Network Marketer To Living The Life Of My Dreams

Today, You are the star of your own script, the captain of your own ship and the master of your own destiny.
You see, all of the biggest accomplishments in human society started with a dream. They started with passion, imagination, curiosity and determination.
However what if I was to tell you that over 95% of society will give up on their dreams before they even get there?
In a world of opportunity, of infinite possibilities  where one can access all the resources that they desire to become successful, we see 95% of people unfulfilled, unaccomplished, and under utilised.
Many of us have access to the same tools, to the same coaches, opportunities, mentors and resources, yet we see some people live their passion and others that never go on to live theirs.
About 9 years ago, I was a struggling networker- I was broke, exhausted, low on belief and in the 95% category- ready to give up on my dreams.

An animated super mario movie is on the way, from the people who brought you minions

Dah-dah-dah-duh-duh-DAH! Of course, you’ll have recognised the Super Mario music there, which we’re playing in celebration of the news that everyone’s favourite plumber is getting a brand new movie. And happily, this version is going to be a fully animated affair…

If you were a child of the ‘80s, chances are you’ll remember the 1993 live-action movie that starred Bob Hoskins as a weirdly cockney-sounding Mario. Quite frankly, it was terrible. However, Nintendo has seemingly learned its lesson, with the videogame giant set to team up with Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind the Despicable Me franchise.

Welcome To February 2018

  You matter

Under his control all the different parts of the body fit together, and the whole body is held together by every joint with which it is provided. So when each separate part works as it should, the whole body grows and builds itself up through love. Ephesians 4:16 (GNT)

One day it occurred to The Members of the Body that they were doing all of the work while the Belly got all of the food. They believed the Belly was lazy and unproductive. It was decided that they would hold a meeting to discuss how unfair this seemed. After the long meeting, it was voted on that The Members of the Body would go on strike until the Belly agreed to take its proper share of the work. The unhappy body parts didn’t do anything for several days in an attempt to stop feeding the Belly. The Legs stopped walking, the Hands stopped moving and the Teeth stopped chewing. As a result of this inactivity and the starving of the Belly, the Legs became more and more tired, the Hands could hardly move anymore and the Mouth became parched and very dry. Eventually, the entire Body collapsed and passed away as the Belly completely starved.

Callum Wilson sparks shock Bournemouth rout of Chelsea

Olivier Giroud sat behind the home dugouts, burying his emotions in Chelsea training gear, though so much of this new start would have reminded him of his darker days at Arsenal. Only 24 hours previously he had been summoned from the bench as his old team succumbed to Swansea City. Now prised away by the Premier League champions, he endured his new side capitulating against another team threatened by the drop.

The Frenchman was supposed to have left nights like this behind. Instead, he shivered in dismay as Bournemouth, rugged when they needed to be and ruthless in an eye-catching spell after the break, ran riot in south-west London. Theirs had been a startling performance, and one of a team who should clamber clear of trouble with ease if they perform to these lofty levels over the campaign’s last three months. This will rank as their best top-flight win, a result that will erode faith at Stamford Bridge. A first league loss in nine games this may have been but Chelsea’s ended up being a capitulation.

Now That You’ve Received Your January Salary, What Next?

Payday is finally here! After 60 days of mild “famine” in January, you can now walk into any bank and demand for your money! For some people, salaries have already come in, for others who haven’t, it is expected to come in this week. Whichever category you fall in, what is certain is that by the end of this week, you’d be flush with cash. This begs the question: “Now that you’ve received your January salary, what next?” Typically, the first thing that comes to mind is to pay bills; in fact, some people already have a truckload of outstanding debt that equals about 80% of their January salary.

Some have spent their entire salary in their head before it even arrives, while others are patiently waiting for the arrival of the weekend so they can splurge half of their salary in clubs/bars, and live from hand to mouth the rest of the month.

While there’s no harm in having a good time, before you go ahead to start paying bills and debts, have you actually paid yourself? Here are a list of important actions to take whenever you receive your monthly salary.

Nigerian author believes #MeToo movement ‘long overdue’

PARIS: The great global reckoning with sexual harassment is “long overdue”, says acclaimed Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, however, the feminist figurehead in Africa hopes it is not “a passing fad”.

As the global #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct continues in the wake of the disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s downfall, the novelist said it should be only the beginning.

“For a long time, women in many parts of the world felt that they couldn’t talk about these things because they would not be believed and because there would be many consequences for them,” Adichie said in an interview with AFP.

The author of several award-winning books, including Half of a Yellow Sun, Purple Hibiscus, and Americanah, has tirelessly campaigned against gender inequality.

Oracle Raises Concern over ICT Growth, Digital Transformation

The Managing Director of Oracle Nigeria, Mr. Adebayo Sanni, has highlighted the trends and challenges affecting the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) landscape and the future of digital transformation within the African region.

Citing statistics released during the IDC CIO Summit META in 2016, which found that public cloud adoption in Nigeria was already close to 40 per cent, with 20 per cent of organisations looking to implement cloud solutions by end of 2018, while a remarkable 25 per cent has no plans to adopt cloud, Sanni said as for private cloud, not only did the statistics show that a mere 11 per cent were set to implement it by the end of 2018, but raised the concern that a staggering 40 per cent had no plans to implement it at all.

These statistics, he said, raised questions around Nigeria’s ability to innovate in ICT and ride it to the next level of success. He questioned if there was a lack of interest in cloud that could lose the country ground in the technology revolution, or is adoption merely a trend away?

How Toxic is Your Workplace?

Not everybody wakes up on Monday morning and whistles their way into the office. Not everyone is thoroughly excited or passionate about their job. However, there is a marked difference between routine workplace difficulties and a working environment that strains you to the point of illness.

When you first start a job, it might be hard to see the red flags because you’re so excited and maybe even feel privileged to be at that workplace. But with time, you may begin to see more clearly and realize that things aren’t what they seemed from the outside. These environments usually tend to get worse the longer you stay.

One or more of these factors may mean that you are working in the land of toxicity.

Your boss has poor leadership skills
Almost every time, toxic work environments are derived from how the employers treat their employees. Statistics show that the major reason employees leave a place of work is because of a poor relationship with a boss.

Hello everyone! Have a successful week.

Tecno Camon CM Specs and Price

Tecno is a well known brand in this part of the world and its latest smartphone has a lot to say about the Chinese OEM. The Tecno Camon CM is a nice looking smartphone that features the much coveted 18:9 aspect ratio. It also comes with a bezel-less display which is the first from Tecno. However,  the smartphone will still more or less be categorized as entry-level smartphone because of its spec sheet.

Tecno Camon CM Key Specs and Price

5.7-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen,  1440 x 720 pixels (282 ppi)
Android 7.0 (Nougat)
Quad-core MediaTek MT6737 CPU with 2GB
16GB built-in storage,  up to 128GB with memory card
13MP rear camera with LED flash and 13MP front camera also with LED flash
4G LTE Data
Fingerprint sensor (rear)
3, 000mAh removable Li-Po battery

Design and Display

Tecno Camon CM is one good looking beauty of a smartphone with a polycarbonate build. Since the advent of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and other high end flagships there has been an increased number of bezel-less display in the smartphone market as young brands are trying to create a cheaper alternative or wannabe device that is available for low budget buyers.

Tecno equips its new smartphone with an HD+ display which is in par with other smartphones in its category. Here, you have an impressive high screen to body ratio thanks to the minimal bezel. The Tecno Camon CM comes with a 5.7-inch 1440 x 720 pixels display with a pixel density of 282 ppi and a colourful display at that.

Battery and Camera

Not much is on the Tecno Camon CM in terms of battery capacity as it comes with a rather mediocre 3, 000mAh Li-Po battery. The battery is also removable so you can always swap it out if you want to which is not something you see every day in recent smartphones.

If you’re a picture enthusiast or you intend to get a budget smartphone for snapchat or instagram and other related social media activities this one the smartphones to consider. Although there’s no comparison with other high-end smartphones. The Tecno Camon CM comes with a 13MP rear camera and a 13MP front camera as well, both with LED flash.

Votes Will No Longer Be Decided By Those Who Sit In Bourdillon

Mr. Fela Dorutoye, a Lagos based motivational speaker and alleged Nigerian presidential hopeful, has said the decision on those who lead Nigeria would no more come from Bourdilon, the famous resident of the National Leader of All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Durotoye said this during a meet up with #TeamFD volunteers in Lekki, Lagos on Sunday.

Addressing the electoral challenges in Nigeria, the motivational speaker urged the youth not to be deceived into selling their votes for another four years of bad governance.

Although news around town has it that Mr. Durotoye might be running for the presidency come 2019, he has not made any official announcement as regards his ambition neither has there been any indication on the platform he will run on.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mohamed Salah fire Reds to thrilling victory

It’s the big one: Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in Sunday’s late kick-off, hoping to become the first side to beat Pep Guardiola’s team in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool welcome back their star man Mohamed Salah, but Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are all out injured. A win will take Liverpool – currently level on points with Tottenham Hotspur – above Chelsea in the table.

City will meanwhile welcome back a number of players after he shuffled his pack for the club’s EFL Cup game against Bristol City. But Gabriel Jesus, Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy all remain out.  City currently enjoy a 15-point lead at the top of the table.

Post-match reaction from Jurgen Klopp

"That's how football can look if two teams combine quality and skills with attitude.

"I think we deserved the three points. I never thought we would be 4-1 up. We were never safe but I am completely happy with the result because I think it was a fair result.

"I think in 10 years you might look back at this game and say it was a historical one because it could be the only defeat for Man City. They are a really good side and I'm really proud of my boys for performing how they did tonight."

Post-match reaction from Liverpool's players

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

On ending Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League run: "It's a nice statement from us. They've been brilliant all year. We knew we had what it took to get three points today. Ultimately, it doesn't matter who we were playing, we just wanted to win today."

On scoring the opening goal of the game: "The manager keeps telling me to shoot so I gave it a go and luckily it went in."

Apple's iPhone 8 And X Are Getting Chinese Android Users To Defect

Kantar Worldpanel ComTech released its November data for iOS and Android smartphone market shares this week. It tracks smartphone market share on a three month rolling average in multiple countries. While the iPhone’s market share in the US and Japan is less than a year ago it is significantly higher in China. On a month-to-month basis Apple has seen a strong rebound in market share driven by the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X. I have Kantar data going back to September 2011 available via this Google Doc. (Note that I own Apple shares and have sold Put options).

Chinese customers test the new iPhone 7 during the opening sale launch at an Apple store in Beijing.

Techpoint.ng to host 5000+ Nigerians at the maiden edition of Techpoint Build

Don’t ask me how I made my money – Ubi Franklin

TripleMG boss Ubi Franklin has criticized people who are curious about how people made their money.

In a post on his Instagram, the entrepreneur wrote:

Very Annoying when people ask questions like “how did he make his money” “where him carry money from” Why do you want to know how He/she made Money? There is a fundamental issue here and we need to fix it starting from The Youths of our dear Nation.
We tend to hold hardworking young men accountable and forget we have people who we all elected into power and going by what they earn officially cannot afford the lifestyle they live.
So don’t ask me questions Cos your money no dey miss 😀😀😀😀.
