10 surprising ways marriage makes you healthier

As any happily married person can attest, there are countless perks to matrimony. But you may not realize that those with partners by their sides just may live longer than their unattached counterparts—and avoid serious conditions in the process.
Here are 10 unexpected health bonuses to being hitched.
1. A Longer Life
If you’ve told your spouse he’ll be the death of you, you were probably mistaken. A 2013 study by Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, showed that baby boomers in a steady marriage or long-term relationship are half as likely to die than singles during middle age—and they accounted for factors like socioeconomic status and health problems. This is likely because having a companion keeps you emotionally enriched, socially connected and mentally stimulated, all of which are linked to better health.

Pistorius was not mentally ill when he shot girlfriend' - experts says

Many weeks after his trial was put on hold so he can get psychiatric evaluation to determine if he was
mentally ill when he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, in his home in February 2013, a report has been released. A panel of mental health experts has concluded that Oscar Pistorius was not suffering from mental illness when he killed Reeva, the chief prosecutor at his murder trial said today.

The mental experts, a psychologist and 3 psychiatrists all agreed that Oscar understood the gravity of his act when he shot Reeva through a closed toilet door. The request for evaluation came after his defence team brought a psychiatrist who testified that Oscar had an anxiety disorder, because of his disability, that could have contributed to the shooting. His trial resumed today after a 1-month break.

Founder of Boko Haram is a member of the opposition - FFK

While speaking on Channels TV's breakfast show, Sunrise Daily, this morning June 30th, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who recently dumped the APC for PDP, said the founder of terrorist group, Boko Haram, is an indigene of Borno state and is also a key official of the opposition. He also said Boko Haram is the armed wing of the opposition. Some of what he said below...
"It is very clear that the founder of Boko Haram, the person that actually founded Boko Haram when he was in office...and I won't mention his name on Television but everybody knows who it is, is from Borno state. He is alive and well. He is a key member of the opposition. Again I look at the utterances of the official spokesman of the opposition last year, that is Lai Mohammed, where he protested at the fact that Boko Haram was proscribed by the federal government where he said it was unconstitutional for the federal government to do so. He needs to explain why it is he would want to protect and support an organization that has killed almost 15,000 Nigerians as at that time and is against the fact that they were being proscribed to protect Nigerians.
"If you compare what’s happening in Nigeria to what happened in Ireland some years ago, you had Sinn Fein on the one hand and then you had the IRA on the other. The IRA was the armed wing of Sinn Fein and as far as I’m concerned, Boko Haram could well be described as the armed wing of the opposition, today.”

President Jonathan has promised to travel to Brazil to watch the Super Eagles live if they make it to the quarter-final stage of the 2014 World Cup. Nigeria will play France in the Round of 16 tomorrow Monday June 30th (5pm Nigerian time) and if they beat France, GEJ and some members of his govt will travel to Brazil to watch their next match.

This was revealed by Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, who said the additional incentive from the president has motivated the players to beat France at all cost. Nigeria has never reached the quarter-final stage of any World Cup
"He assured us when he called that he's behind us and if we beat France and qualify for the quarter-final, he will come and visit us and watch the next game. That's a very big motivation for us to know that the president will come and visit us. It's better than money and we are determined to go there and fight and give our best. It's a morale booster."

7 easy ways to eat healthy in your 30s

With busy schedules and lots of responsibilities, we often forget to eat healthy in our 30s. Date nights with your partner, spending time with your children and making a career, it seems there’s no time to cook and eat healthy meals.
However, you need to take care of yourself and eat well in your 30s since they’re some of the most important years for preventing chronic health problems, including cardiovascular disease, dental disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. If you are trying to lead a healthy lifestyle, check out the list of 7 easy ways to eat healthy in your 30s.
1. Make time for yourself
No matter how busy you are, you should always make time for yourself. Carve out 15-20 minutes to make a healthy lunch for yourself or carve out those 5 minutes to enjoy some herbal tea. I know it’s hard to make time for yourself when you have plenty of important tasks to accomplish. But if you want to be healthy in your 30s and in the years to come, you need to take a few short breaks throughout the day.

Snakes And Bees 'flush Out' Boko Haram Fighters

The Nigerian Army is struggling to flush Boko Haram Islamist fighters out of their forest fastness, but it seems snakes may be doing the job for them.

Two suspected Boko Haram gunmen captured by local volunteers in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, said they had fled the Sambisa Forest because of "incessant snake bites", the Vanguard newspaper reports.

One of the suspects, Kolo Mustapha, said bees have also been known to join in the attacks, often leaving their victims fatally injured. Some of his fellow-fighters think there is a supernatural aspect to the attacks, fearing that Boko Haram's victims are wreaking vengeance on their killers.

Mustapha said he was caught because, like many others, he was trying to sneak back into town "as we have nowhere else to go". "Our leaders have fled to Cameroon," he added, saying they had forced local youths to join the group.

The other captive, Umar Abor, said "almost all our comrades are leaving the Sambisa because of constant attacks by snakes and bees". Many accuse Boko Haram leaders of having brought the plague upon themselves by kidnapping and killing civilians.

The Civilian JTF volunteers agree that fighters have been fleeing the forest in growing numbers over the past two weeks, and were helping the security forces find weapons caches.

Adebayo Okeowo: Thou Shall Not Wear A Mini Skirt

I had been informed of Swaziland’s intolerance for women in short skirts or revealing clothes but to witness it firsthand hand was a totally different experience. Now what I saw was not a skimpily clad daughter of Adam but a grandmother who berated two young girls for wearing short skirts and revealing tops.

Considering the case of a girl who was publicly stripped at a taxi rank in Manzini (one of Swaziland’s cities) for wearing a mini skirt and her thighs scrubbed with a brush, mini skirts are probably the next greatest act of treason in Swaziland, second only to the crime of insulting the king.

‘Well meaning folks’ are the problem of this country

Nigeria is a nation of defeatists. We’re all about eternal forbearance. A nation of hopers waiting for ‘the beautiful ones’ to be born.
“A battle is won by the side that is absolutely determined to win…but we had told ourselves early in the day that the battle was lost, so it was lost.”
Last week, my friend (Sam) and his friends were together when a friend in their midst got involved in an altercation with someone. It was minor by eyewitnesses accounts. Later in the same day, the police broke down Sam’s door (he wasn’t home). So they took important items from his school hostel and asked him to come for them at the station- turns out Sam and his friends were all named in the case brought by the man his friend had an altercation with. Now, it gets interesting. Sam and his friends went to the station.
The police without asking them for their statements on what had happened and though only one of them had the problem with the accuser, they were all asked to strip and were beaten within inches of their lives- after which they were made to enter into a horribly dirty pool of water and bathe in it. And did I mention that they were all students- except for their accuser?

Whether girl or guy, being friendzoned has got to hurt; especially when you see your ‘friend’ going through the same vicious cycle over and over again and you have to be the shoulder they lean on every single time.
More often than not, the Friendzone has been treated as the exclusive preserve as the guys; in most conversations where it’s discussed, you see a lot of descriptions where the man is on the receiving end of it. I recently came across an article that was titled “How not be caught in the Friendzone; A brother’s guide”. It was a hilarious and interesting read, I might add.

Mark Twain, in his famous quote submitted that “twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by those you did.” Hence, I will not be one of those who waited for history to call them to question. Whilst thinking up on this piece, I could hardly repress the gust of thoughts that my mind experienced but one thing I got out of my thought world is that our society’s  moral fabric has been disgracefully shredded. While some of us know this but shy away from the subject matter, many others are yet to awake to the mischief set to unleash on our society until our enervated consciences are further rent. It is sad enough that some members of the international community have been bickering over the recent signing into law of the anti-gay bill by the President Goodluck Jonathan.
