Sundowns win race for Nigerian forward Uzoenyi

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the signing of Nigeria international Christantus Ejike Uzoenyi who was voted the Most Valuable Player at the 2014 Chan tournament in South Africa
The nippy forward was reportedly linked with Absa Premiership sides SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates early this month. Now the Brazilians have sealed a deal with his Nigerian club, Enugu Rangers .

"After being on the radar of many South African teams, and some European, the 24-year-old Nigerian has signed a four year deal with The Brazilians and will join his new teammates in June." a statement on the Sundowns official website said.

Uzoenyi, who will stay with Enugu Rangers until June, had a short stint with French Ligue 1 club Rennes last year. He has also played for 2004 Caf Champions League winners Enyimba back in Nigeria.

"Negotiations for the player’s acquisition have been ongoing since after the Chan tournament and the player is excited to have finally concluded the deal," the statement confirmed.

“Joining a club like Sundowns is a great deal for me because their ambitions to conquer Africa are in line with my career objectives as a player,” Uzoenyi told the club's website.

“The other thing that made me join the club is that coach Pitso had a chat with me before I joined. We had a discussion about his plans for me and I feel that I’m ready for the challenge,” he concluded.
