South Africa gold mine fire: Eight bodies recovered; one miner still missing

(CNN) -- Rescuers recovered the bodies of eight miners trapped in a South African gold mine after an underground fire this week, the company said Thursday.

The fire at the Doornkop mine erupted Tuesday.

A search continues for a ninth employee, Harmony Gold Mining Co. said in a statement.

Emergency workers rescued eight other miners Wednesday and brought them to the surface of the mine west of Johannesburg.
