Jonathan Fails To Show Up At Inauguration Of Presidential Campaign C'ttee

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday suspended the inauguration of his presidential campaign committee, earlier slated for 2:00pm today, following the death of his younger sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Olei.

Mrs. Jonathan-Olei died on Sunday at the age of 52 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State after a brief illness.

Dignitaries, who had gone to the Legacy House, the Peoples Democratic Party, presidential campaign headquarters in Maitama District, waited until 3:00pm for the arrival of the president, only to be informed that the inauguration had been suspended.

Announcing the suspension of the event, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Prof. Rufai Alkali, said in view of the demise of the president’s younger sister, the campaign organisation decided to suspend the inauguration.

He said the inauguration has, accordingly, been shifted to Tuesday, by 11am.

The political adviser implored the gathering to observe a minute silence for the late Nancy.
