Zambian heavyweights ZESCO United booked their spot in the next round of the 2016 CAF Champions League, following their 3-0 aggregate win over South Sudan’s Al-Ghazal in their preliminary round tie.
After enjoying a 2-0 victory in Ndola in the first leg a fortnight ago, they kept their momentum going with a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in Juba this Friday.
John Chingandu headed home the winner on the stroke of full time for the visitors.
ZESCO will face AS Douanes Dakar of Senegal or Guinea’s Horoya AC in the next round of Africa’s most prestigious club competition.
Meanwhile, Al-Ahli Tripoli and Club Africain also extended their stay in the continental tournament this Friday, after holding Onze Créateurs of Mali in Sousse and Côte d’Ivoire’s AS Tanda in Abidjan respectively to a goalless draw.
The result sees the Tunisians and the Libyans progress on aggregate, courtesy of their 2-0 (Club Africain) and 2-1 (Al-Ahli Tripoli) wins in the first leg.
Al Ahli will battle Sudanese giants Al Hilal in the next round, with Club Africain to face Ashanti Gold of Ghana or Algeria’s MO Béjaïa.
