Apple Music has 11 million subscribers- closing in on Spotify

Apple Music is gaining on rival digital music service Spotify, with 11 million paying subscribers.
That's more than half of Spotify's 20 million members, who pay $9.99 for monthly access to unlimited digital music.
While Spotify has been in operations since 2011 in the United States, Apple Music launched in June, with a free 90-day trial. It has slowly been attracting more users, and keeping them.
Just a few weeks ago, Apple said it had 10 million subscribers for Music.
The new number was revealed in an interview on John Gruber's "The Talk Show," podcast which attracts a large audience among Apple developers. His guests were Apple execs Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi.

Digital music is dominated by Apple and Spotify, with rivals that also include Google, Tidal, Pandora and others. Pandora, which offers free music streaming, has been struggling on Wall Street. It announced a new stat for users, 81.1 million, down slightly from 81.4 million in the last quarter.
Pandora's fate is being hotly debated on Wall Street. The New York Times reported this week that the company may be up for sale, and Edison Investment Research noted Friday that Spotify is a likely buyer.
Besides Apple Music, on the podcast the execs also said that the iCloud service, which Apple consumers use for storing photos and other documents, has 782 million users.
The execs also announced new changes for Apple TV. Instead of having to type in passwords to synch with apps, Apple is adding dictation via Siri to add apps.
