China gives clean chit to its nationals on Malaysian plane
KUALA LUMPUR: China´s state news agency says background checks on all its nationals on board the missing Malaysian jetliner have uncovered no links to terrorism.
Xinhua said the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia made the statement Tuesday to media in Kuala Lumpur. There has been some speculation that Uighur separatists in far western Xinjiang province might have been involved with the flight´s disappearance. The statement will lessen that speculation.

Gravity waves and the Big Bang theory

"Can we figure out how the universe began and where it all came from?"
It might be an ordinary question, but the man asking it -- Alan Guth -- is considered extraordinary in the world of science. He has devoted his life to its answer, trying to figure out exactly how our universe began.
35 years after Guth first posed the question, the Highland Park, N.J., native and MIT professor just got some serious validation for his theory.
"There was no way of knowing if these B-modes that were found were capable of being found at all," he said.

Rare female-to-female HIV transmission case in US
AN extremely rare case of HIV infection between two women has been reported in the USA.
In its weekly morbidity and morality report, released late last week, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) said that it was highly likely a 46-year-old Texan woman had contracted the virus from her female partner.
During 2012, the woman engaged in a six-month long relationship with another woman infected with HIV who had ceased to take antiretroviral drugs two years earlier.
The CDC said pinpointing female-to-female HIV transmission was difficult due to other risk factors, such as sharing needles or heterosexual sex, being present in most cases.
However, in this case, these other risk factors were not reported. For instance, the relationship between the women was monogamous and the newly infected woman had not had heterosexual sex for over a decade. Continue.

NIS Test: Impatience led to applicants’ death - Minister of Interior
Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has reacted to the craziness that
happened yesterday during the Immigration Service Test which took place
across stadiums in Nigeria. The number of people that died during the
recruitment exercise has increased from 6 to about 9. The deaths
occurred in Abuja, Lagos and Minna but instead of commiserating with
families who lost loved ones, Mr Moro said they died as a result of
their impatience...
“The applicants lost their lives due to impatience; they did not follow the laid down procedures spelt out to them before the exercise. Many of them jumped through the fences of affected centres and did not conduct themselves in an orderly manner to make the exercise a smooth one. This caused stampede and made the environment unsecured.”
He also contradicted the number of applicants that participated in the
employment test. The initial number we got was 2.3million, but the
minister says that only 520,000 participated and only 4,556 would be
recruited. 520,000 x1,000 =?

Amina who is highly placed in the bank got tempted and deceptively requested for a cheque book, claiming it was for the emir. She started operating the account and withdraw monies from the account to the tune of N17million.
Her immediate boss eventually noticed the difference in the signature of the Emir they have in their file and that of the signature on a cheque Amina presented and alerted the authorities.
Amina who is said to be married to a top staff of a broadcast organisation is currently in the custody of the EFCC alongside 12 colleagues who have been identified as accomplices. The bank has however raised the 17million from the accounts of Amina and her other accomplice and returned to the Emirs account.

Iraq Set To Pass New Law That Will Allow Girls As Young As 8 To Be Married
A contentious draft law being considered in Iraq could open
the door to girls as young as nine getting married and would require wives to
submit to sex on their husband's whim.
The draft law does not set a minimum age for marriage.
Instead, it mentions an age in a section on divorce, setting rules for divorces
of girls who have reached the age of 9 years in the lunar Islamic calendar. It
also says it's the age girls reach puberty.
Four Major Reasons Why Men Are Afraid To Marry Successful Women
LOW SELF ESTEEM
One personality disorder that most people suffer is low self
esteem, hence, men are not exempted from this. Low self esteem is rating
yourself so low while comparing yourself with another person. If some men could
be wise to know what a woman wants, you will not allow self esteem issue to
belittle your real worth. Marriage is not about comparison. If it were to be,
everybody will be looking out for their mate (with the same IQ, temperament,
maturity or understanding) to marry. Men needs to change their perception about
this kind of ladies if love is the drive for the relationship.

6 die in stampede at immigration employment tests venues across Nigeria
The Abuja stadium which is to sit not more than 60,000 people had well over 80,000 youths and only one entrance to the stadium was opened for the applicants. It's being reported that at least six people died during a stampede at some of the venues of the poorly coordinated test. The dead are mostly from the Abuja venue. I hear a pregnant woman was among the deceased.
The dead applicants have been taken to the National Hospital Abuja morgue. May their souls rest in peace...Amen.
It's important to note that these applicants paid N1,000 registration fee and there were over 2 million applicants...you do the calculation, that's about N2billion. We need the Minister of Interior and Comptroller General of Immigration to address what happened today.

The former cabinet minister and figurehead of the left died at home aged 88
Friends and political foes united yesterday to pay tribute to Tony Benn, hailing the Labour stalwart as a “champion of the powerless” after his death at the age of 88.
The party’s longest-serving MP died at home surrounded by his family, and within minutes of the announcement accolades poured in.
Mr Benn was admitted to hospital for treatment early last month after feeling unwell. He returned home on March 4 and died yesterday morning.
His children Stephen, Hilary, Melissa and Joshua said their father had fought to transform the world.
They said: “We will miss above all his love which has sustained us throughout our lives. But we are comforted by the memory of his long, full and inspiring life and so proud of his devotion to helping others as he sought to change the world for the better.”
Mr Benn was also hailed by MPs across the political divide. Tory PM David Cameron said he was a “magnificent writer, speaker and campaigner”.
Labour leader Ed Miliband said he would be remembered “as a champion of the powerless” and Lib Dem Deputy PM Nick Clegg praised him as “a hugely iconic figure” known by all.
And last night it emerged the statesman had left a heart-warming message of thanks to those closest to him to be broadcast after his death.
In the Channel 4 clip he thanked his family and late wife Caroline. He went on: “All the many other people who supported me – I hope that in return I encourage them and didn’t give offence because I tried to speak my mind and that’s what you have to do in politics.”
At the end of the recording he raised his finger up and joked: “And I’ll check that on transmission.”

Diseases can be cured if diagnosed early
Speaking on the occasion of World Kidney Day, Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director, George Institute for Global Health, India said chronic kidney diseases are considered to be a global health problem but many cases go undiagnosed as people ignore the symptoms of the disease in the early stages.
“In kidney diseases if detected early and treated properly, the deterioration in kidney functioning can be slowed or even stopped,” Jha said.
“Though it is an undeniable fact that chronic kidney disease prevalence rises with age and exceeds 40-50 per cent amongst elders, people should visit doctors at least twice a month for a check up,” said Jha, who is also the secretary of the Indian Society of Nephrology.

New York City gas explosion subject of federal probe
(Reuters) - Federal safety authorities launched an investigation on Thursday into a gas explosion that caused the collapse a day earlier of two New York City apartment buildings, killing eight people and injuring dozens of others.
The still-smoldering rubble prevented investigators from getting close enough to examine the main pipe that supplies natural gas to the Upper East Side neighborhood, said Robert Sumwalt, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, which reviews accidents involving natural gas.
When firefighters say the area is safe, he said, investigators will conduct a pressure test on the pipe to find the location of the leak that may have caused the blast.
"We are operating under the assumption at this point that it is a natural gas leak that led to an explosion," Sumwalt said.

Refineries will still be privatised – Allison-Madueke
Diezani Allison-Madueke, the minister of petroleum resources, said on
Tuesday in Abuja that the Federal Government was still going on with
the privatisation of refineries.
Allison-Madueke said this when she spoke at the 2014 budget defence of the ministry before the joint Senate committee on petroleum resources (upstream) and Senate committee on gas.
The minister said that the exercise had only been put on hold for now since the unions had seriously fought against it in 2013.
“We did vote for privatisation to have started early this year and as you probably know, the unions fought us on that quite strongly so we stepped back for some time to look at it again at a later point”, she said.
“We met with the unions who stated at that time that they were not comfortable with privatisation and as a result of our negotiation we agreed to stand it down.
“We said we would stand it down for that period but we will still keep the discussion on the table with them.
“They themselves want us to continue discussing it to see if we can come to a point where they are comfortable with it so we are still in ongoing discussions on that”, the minister said.
She said that government had no business running any major infrastructure, adding that the only way the refineries could perform optimally was if they were privatised.

The World Footballer of the Year held off rival Lionel Messi in the 2014 Goal Rich List with an estimated wealth of €148million. Retired footballer David Beckham was the 2013 Goal Rich List winner but since he's retired from football, he's no longer eligible to be put in the list.
Messi comes second with an estimated net worth of €146million followed by Eto'o with €85million then Wayne Rooney with €84million, and Kaka rounds off the top 5 with €82million.

“The students started coming on March 3, shortly after the mass transfer, they are still coming. As at this morning (Monday), we have about 225 students. But I believe by now the figure will have risen to 250.
“We have already accommodated them in our hostels, especially where we had vacant rooms. They were transferred with 70% of their teachers, who have also started reporting for duty,” The principal said.
5 Ways to Stay Young and Fit
Unfortunately, staying active is a lifestyle that we as a population
have grown out of. But you can regain this commitment by following these
five rules.
When exercising, you should not be able to carry on a conversation with your buddy. (Don't get me started on people reading a magazine on the treadmill.) Next time you're at the gym:
Break a sweat every day
Challenge yourself every day to participate in a physical activity that causes you to get out of breath or sweat. To change your body, you must train outside of your comfort zone. If you like your body the way it is, then don't stress it. But if you want to build strength, get a six-pack or lose fat, then work hard. When exercising, you should not be able to carry on a conversation with your buddy. (Don't get me started on people reading a magazine on the treadmill.) Next time you're at the gym:
- Increase your weights
- Hit the incline on your treadmill or run hills
- Add a plyometrics workout
- Combine strength training with various rounds of conditioning; for example, perform a Overhead Shoulder Press, then sprint on a treadmill at nine mph on a six-inch incline for 30 seconds. Rest for 90 seconds and repeat four times.
