No miracle for Bidvest Wits and Africa Sports in Confed Cup

Africa Sports and Bidvest Wits bid farewell to the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday, after failing to turn the table around on the road.

Defeated 0-2 in Abidjan in the first leg of their round of 32 tie with Egypt’s ENPPI, the ‘Green and Red’ were again thrashed 4-1 in Cairo in the reverse fixture to fall 1-6 on aggregate, while the Clever Boys had to settle for a 4-3 loss to Azam in Dar es Salaam following their painful 0-3 defeat on home soil a week ago.

Zambian side Zanaco FC added to Harare City’s misery with a 3-1 victory in Lusaka (5-2 aggregate win), with club’s player of the year Ziyo Tembo hitting a brace alongside a late goal from Dave Daka.

CF Mounana of Gabon showed little mercy to Burundi visitors Atlético Olympic, recording a 3-0 victory to progress 5-0 on aggregate.

And while Ghanaian side Medeama SC managed to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit with a 2-0 home win over Al-Ittihad Tripoli, Liberia’s Barrack Young Controllers fell short against Kawkab Marrakech of Morocco despite a 2-0 home victory in Monrovia.

As for Sudanese outfit Al-Ahly Shendi, they advanced on the away goals rule after playing to a 2-2 aggregate draw with DR Congo’s Saint-Eloi Lupopo.
