#Federal Government gives ASUU 1 week ultimatum to call off strike

uring a press briefing in Abuja this morning, the acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike told journalist that the Federal Government has given the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) one week ultimatum to call off the ongoing strike. A Nigerian man was killed on a motorway after getting out of a car on the way to the airport after a fight with his wife over their credit card.


 Daily Mail reports Nahinmu Nicholas had stormed out of the Ford Focus with his suitcases, saying he was going to hitch-hike to Heathrow, but was knocked down by a lorry in the morning darkness. His wife had pulled over on what they both thought was the hard shoulder of the M25, not realising that it was a live lane because of roadworks. A coroner was told that lorry driver Martin Hook was unable to avoid Mr Nicholas as he suddenly caught sight of him

#Couple Jailed For Life For Slitting Throat Of Teenage Daughter

An Indian couple have been jailed for life for slitting the throats of their 13-year-old daughter and a servant after finding them in an "objectionable" situation. Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were accused of killing teenager Aarushi and their domestic servant Hemraj at their New Delhi home in May 2008. After a long-running case that has gripped the country, the couple broke down in court yesterday after they were found guilty.  Continue

Today the prosecutors had asked for the death penalty against the pair, who are both dentists and claim they are victims of police incompetence. The couple will appeal against the guilty verdict handed down by the same local court on Monday. Aarushi was found dead in her bedroom on May 16 2008, just a few days before her 14th birthday. The body of 45-year-old Hamraj, who had worked for the family for 10 years, was found on the roof of the house the following day. Both had had their throats cut, and been beaten with golf clubs. Early in the investigation, police alleged Rajesh had murdered Aarushi and Hemraj in a rage after finding them in a compromising situation. It was the kind of crime more often associated with rural parts of India where "honour killings" are not uncommon than with a successful, middle class family living near the capital - helping to explain the huge interest it has generated. The Talwars deny the murder and blame sensational media coverage for demonising them and damaging their defence. The Talwars’ lawyers highlighted the lack of hard evidence. One of them, Rebecca John, told the CNN-IBN news channel: "This is nothing but a witch hunt.

#Latvia PM resigns after supermarket roof collapse that killed 54

The Prime Minister of Latvia, Valdis Dombrovskis, resigned today Wednesday November 27th after saying he is politically responsible for the collapse of a supermarket roof that killed 54 people and wounded at least 40 others last week, the Associated Press reports. The roof of Maxima Supermarket located in Riga collapsed on Thursday November 21 killing several people including three rescue workers. 39 others were seriously injured.Continue..

#15yr old Nigerian boy shot&stabbed in his home after being mistaken for gang member.

A 15 year-old boy named Kieran Obazee was shot and stabbed on Friday Nov. 22 at his east London home by gang members in what police believe may have been a case of mistaken identity, Daily Mail reports. Fortunately, Kieran survived the vicious attack and but is in a serious condition in hospital. According to a report by Sahara Reporters, one of late MKO Abiola's wife, and former MD of the defunct Concord Newspapers, Dr. Doyin Abiola has been arraigned before the Federal High Court, Lagos, for fraud. A statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ngozi Isintume-Agu said that the Financial Malpractices Investigation Unit (FMIU) of Special Fraud Unit (SFU) said that between 2006 and 2008, as a Director of the Integrated Microfinance Bank, Dr. Abiola granted to herself without collateral and approval from the Management, the sum of N26,611,246.48.

The prime suspect in the murder of 26 year old Nigerian, Adaobi. M. Obih, has been apprehended in Texas. #Sokoto state plans mass wedding for 250 widows, widowers.

The Sokoto State Government said on Sunday that it would give out in a mass wedding, 250 widows and widowers across the state to give them a new lease of life.

Alhaji Zubairu Goronyo, the state Commissioner for Social Development, who announced this at the screening of the beneficiaries in Sokoto, said that the venture would gulp N30 million.

According to him, a date will soon be fixed for the exercise.
