N’Golo Kante is expected to be fit to face AS Roma Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is expected to be fit to face AS Roma in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League group stage match, manager Antonio Conte announced yesterday.

Kante, who missed Chelsea’s last five matches with a hamstring injury, trained with the squad before they left for Rome and Conte will speak to the France international before deciding whether he will feature.

Midfielder Danny Drinkwater is also set to play after recovering from a calf problem and on the back of his first Premier League appearance for Chelsea as a late substitute against Bournemouth on Saturday.

“We had three starters out, but we have recovered Drinkwater and Kante. (Victor) Moses needs more time,” Conte told a news conference on Monday.

Motivational Monday – The Similarity Between Success & Failure Is One’s State Of Mind

Motivational Monday quote to get your week started.

“The similarity between success and failure is one’s state of mind.”

There is a phrase that I like to use, “Show me a successful person and I will show you a failure.” What that means is that a majority of people who have attained success have experienced failure.

If one was to look the word “failure” up in the dictionary, two definitions would appear: the first being very simplistic, i.e., heart failure, kidney failure, etc. The second is as quoted, “Defeat, collapse, the condition or fact of not achieving the desired end!”

However, my definition looks at failure in a totally different way. Failure is a gateway to success.

Apple fires iPhone X engineer after daughter’s hands-on video goes viral

Apple has reportedly dismissed an engineer after his daughter’s iPhone X hands-on video went viral on YouTube. Brooke Amelia Peterson published a vlog earlier this week, which included a trip to the Apple campus to visit her father and see an unreleased iPhone X. Peterson’s video was quickly picked up by sites like 9to5Mac, and it spread even further on YouTube.

Peterson now claims her father has been fired as a result of her video. In a tearful video, Peterson explains her father violated an Apple company rule by allowing her to film the unreleased handset at Apple’s campus. Apple reportedly requested that Peterson remove the video, but it was clearly too late as the content spread further and further.

THE VIDEO PROBABLY REVEALED MORE THAN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO
The video itself may have seemed like an innocent hands-on, but it did include footage of an iPhone X with special employee-only QR codes. A notes app was also shown on the iPhone X in the video, which appeared to include codenames of unreleased Apple products. Filming on Apple’s campus is strictly prohibited, so filming an unreleased iPhone X is a definite rule violation.

We’ve seen similar dismissals in the past. A Microsoft employee was dismissed after his son posted pictures of the Xbox 360 before its release. The Apple engineer in question had worked at the company for around four years, building the iPhone RF and wireless circuit design. The Verge reached out to Apple to confirm the dismissal, but the company has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Conte reacts to rumours of Ancelotti replacing him as Chelsea manager

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has rubbished reports that Carlo Ancelotti is set to replace him at the club.

Speculation around Conte’s future at Stamford Bridge has been rife in recent weeks, as the Premier League champions endured a troubled start to the campaign.

“If I see the past it happened the same with a lot of managers. A lot of bulls—. They try to create problems between me, the club and the players.

“If someone is happy to continue to write this I think I answered very well in the past. I am answering very well about these different issues,” the Italian said on Friday.

Chelsea’s director of communications Steve Atkins interjected to call the Holland story “absolute nonsense,” with Conte then adding: “I think this is a lack of respect. I can accept [if you] write that the club is ready to sack me, the story with the players [being unhappy].

“But to put another person in this way, I think it’s incorrect. It’s not good that this person has to send me a message to tell me ‘I’m sorry, but this is not true. I’m sorry, if you want me to do an interview I’m ready.’ Why put another person in this bulls—? Why? If you want to hit me, hit me. Don’t put another person [in it] because this is incorrect and I hate this type of situation.”

Albert Einstein’s theory of happiness sold for $1.7 million

ALBERT Einstein’s theory of happiness may be relative, but it has still managed to fetched $1.7 million at a Jerusalem auction house.

The Nobel-winning scientist’s musings, on a handwritten note, may not be as famous as his groundbreaking theory of relativity, but they still shed light on one of the great modern minds.

Winner’s Auctions and Exhibitions said Einstein was travelling in Japan in 1922 when he was told he would be awarded the Nobel prize in physics.

In Tokyo, Einstein scribbled the note in German to a bellboy after he did not have cash to give him a tip.

The note, on Imperial Hotel Tokyo stationery, says in German that “A calm and humble life will bring more happiness than the pursuit of success and the constant restlessness that comes with it.”

5 Ways to Eat Healthy Without Going Broke

The average person aspires to eat healthy. And…why not? There are so many benefits to eating healthy: more energy, improved health, healthy weight, fresh skin, stabilized mood and sense of wellbeing e.t.c. Unfortunately, eating healthy can be expensive and many who opt for it give up before they even begin.

Think about it: the average cost of broccoli (100g) in a Nigerian grocery store is about NGN 1,500; cauliflower as well. Asparagus is worse – N3, 000 for just about 3-5 sticks. You haven’t even calculated the cost of the meat and oil you would need to prepare the meals, e.t.c. It can really be discouraging, especially if you are on a tight budget.

The good thing about eating healthy though is that, there are many ways to go about it, and some of the possible methods will have you actually spending less on food.

‘Thank You for Your Cooperation’

Am I overly sensitive, or has there been an uptick lately in stilted, uptight, and bureaucratic messaging? For reasons I can’t quite explain, I seem to be encountering a larger-than-normal volume of bossy language, and it is really starting to wear on me.

The trend came to light for me a couple of weeks ago, when I received an e-mail message notifying me that a regularly scheduled meeting had been moved to a new day and time. I groaned when I read this, knowing that making the change would require major calendar shuffling that would affect several people. Had the message acknowledged the possible inconvenience, I probably would have taken it in stride. That is not how the message ended, however.

WILL NIGERIA GET IT RIGHT WITH ORGANISATION AGAINST ZAMBIA?

After the fine issued against the NFF due to pitch invasion against Cameroon, one expects better organisation in the game against the Chipolopolo
When someone falls, they rise up dust themselves up and continue on their journey with an awareness not to repeat the mistake that led to their previous slip. After the uproar from the last 2018 World Cup qualifying game in Uyo between Nigeria and Cameroon, one hopes that lessons learned will ensure a much better encounter when Zambia come calling on Saturday, October 7.
Much of the complaint centred on the issues of militarisation of the stadium environment, using one gate for fans’ entry instead of many, jamming internet signals once the political leadership of the state arrived at the stadium, and the working conditions that media faced. Following that game in Uyo that was in stark contrast with my experience in Yaounde, I spoke to a few staff of the Nigeria Football Federation about improving a few things.
However, it emerged that several issues have been running that way for a long time and that the NFF has not been able to convince the security services at the state level to leave internet active during matches. This is very visible at every Nigeria game that I have covered in the last five years – once the governor arrives, it is goodbye internet.
It emerged from my conversations that an external force needs to act upon the relationship between the state and the NFF in order to ensure that media conditions are improved upon. The NFF is a prisoner to its host - whenever there’s need to play a national team game, the NFF shops for a host state to bankroll the encounter. This leaves the NFF unable to enforce international standards required by FIFA and CAF, the sport’s governing bodies.

Daystar donates school materials to 20,000 children

One Saturday last September, Ilabeshi Gabriel, a bearded man in his mid twenties, stood for close to 10 hours, defying the harsh Lagos sun, to help facilitate in the distribution of back to school kits to some 20,000 students on behalf of Daystar Christian Centre. Two days later, Gabriel, who attends Daystar, took to Facebook to share his emotions.

“We plead and screamed in an effort to control the crowd,” Gabriel wrote, “But none of that mattered, not even the pains we went through. What mattered was that we were part of something. What mattered were the kids and the priceless smile on their faces. It didn’t matter if I had to stand for another 12 hours, as long as the kids were happy, excited with eyes full of hope; that was everything; that is everything.”

Gabriel’s effusive outpour of emotions resonates with the vision of Daystar’s leadership and why the church decided to undertake such a project. Senior Pastor at Daystar, Sam Adeyemi, has said the value of any church is measured by its impacts on the society where it exists and not the built cathedrals.

Facebook, Google, Others Confirm Nigeria’s Requests For User Information

A new report has confirmed what many Nigerians have long suspected to be true: that the federal government is spying on its citizens through the social media and email accounts.

The report titled, “The Growing Trend of African Government’s Requests for User Information and Content Removal from Internet and Telecoms Companies,” was released last month by the Collaboration on International ICT Policy in East and Southern Africa (CIPESA) established under the Catalysing Access to Information and Communications Technologies in Africa (CATIA) initiatives funded by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID).

The organisation analysed transparency reports released by telecommunications and social media companies.

The reports by these companies including Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Twitter and others showed that there has been a surge in African governments’ requests for user information.
