A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has berated senators for abandoning their legislative duties and accompanying Senate President Bukola Saraki to the Code of Conduct Tribunal where he is answering charges of corruption.

The former minister said on her official Twitter handle that the act was shameful and tantamount to debasing the Senate as an institution.

She said senators following a colleague to court to answer charges of corruption was not the done thing in any part of the world.

Ezekwesili said such an act of solidarity by those in government was the reason why Nigeria continued to receive negative international ratings in the area of corruption.

At last, Senate screens Amaechi, supporters jubilate

The Senate on Thursday finally screened the former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, a ministerial nominee from Rivers State.

The Senate had twice postponed the screening of the former governor owing to some allegations of fraud levelled against him by the Rivers State Government and the scheduled trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on alleged false declaration of assets on Wednesday.

At the inception of the screening on Thursday, however, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, had opposed Amaechi’s screening on the grounds that the report of the ad hoc committee, set up by the Senate to look into the petitions against Amaechi’s nomination, had only been submitted but not considered by the lawmakers.

Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, argued that it would be inappropriate to ask the ministerial nominee questions when the report of the panel set up to investigate the allegations against him had not been considered.

He added that the Peoples Democratic senators, whom he represents, would not ask the nominee questions as the report of the committee had not been considered.

Offering a summary of some of the cases allegedly compromised by Mr. Lamorde, the petitioners urged the President to constitute a committee of experts with proven integrity from the law enforcement and intelligence community to take a second look at the cases with a view to finding out if they were compromised or not, and if found to be so, recalling the investigating officers for complicity.

Angelina Joilie is probably the only woman who 'can't wait to turn 50'

Angelina Jolie said she can’t wait to hit 50 and know she's "made it", after both her mother and grandmother were diagnosed with cancer in their forties and died from ovarian cancer.

The actress revealed in March that she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed this year after learning she had a 50% increased risk of getting the cancer. Speaking to Vogue Magazine, she said:
"I feel grounded as a woman. Both of the women in my family, my mother and my grandmother started dying in their 40s. I’m 40. I can’t wait to hit 50 and know I made it."

On her decision to go public with her procedures, she said
“It really connected me to other women. I wish my mom had been able to make those choices." The procedures themselves were, she says, “brutal. It’s hard. "They are not easy surgeries. The ovaries are an easy surgery, but the hormone changes"—she laughs, nods her head—"interesting. We did joke that I had my Monday edit. Tuesday surgery. Wednesday go into menopause. Thursday come back to edit, a little funky with my steps."

Clocked 50? Get your prostateprostate checked

  | credits: medicalnewstoday.com
As breast cancer is common in women above 45, so is prostate cancer in men above 50.

Prostate cancer is a disease which affects only men and it targets the prostate — a gland in the male reproductive system.

Statistics by the National Cancer Registry estimate that 50 per cent of men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer before their golden jubilee.

Though research on this cancer is lacking in Nigeria, experts say the incidence is increasing. They note that the odds are that one could have a father, grandfather, husband, brother or friend living with this disease at any time.

Eaglets have work to do - Ex-Nigeria Keeper

  Emmanuel Amuneke
Former Golden Eaglets goalkeeper Andrew Aikhuomogbe insists Nigeria have a lot of work to do if their target at the Chile 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup is to win the title for the fifth-time.

The Eaglets off to a winning start at Chile 2015 on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat of USA – after Chukwudi Agor hit the back of the net in the 50th minute and Victor Osimhen 11 minutes later.

Although Aikhuomogbe is happy with the outcome of the encounter, the former Super Eagles keeper, who helped Nigeria reach the quarterfinals of the Scotland ’89 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, says the Eaglets may struggle to defend their UAE 2013 title. Nigeria beat Mexico 3-0 in the final in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on November 8, 2013 to win the FIFA Under-17 World Cup for the fourth-time, having won the title in 1985, 1993 and 2007.

Obasanjo's Questionable Colombian Security Experts

Colombia has been battling insurgency for over 50 years without success. The story from this country regarding terrorism management is not attractive. So, what do we have to learn from them that will help us in the battle against Boko Haram? Nothing! That was why I found the visit to President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday by the so-called Colombian security delegation bizarre. The tetchy former President Olusegun Obasanjo led the team to meet with Buhari. The Colombian experts are in Nigeria to share professional expertise on security and counter terrorism, so says Obasanjo. He said Nigeria needed to learn how Colombia survived insurgency for more than 50 years.

The big 30! That’s what my dear friend calls it. These are followed by harsher statements like “You should try to settle down; time is not on your side.” ‘Your biological clock is ticking’, ‘You are not getting younger, at your age I was happily married with children’, ‘Stop being picky, just settle down’, ‘Let’s go and see pastor, you need prayers’, and ‘Your missing rib must locate you’.

  Chief Adegboye Onigbinde
Former Nigeria coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, insists Sunday Oliseh’s lack of managerial experience as Super Eagles coach resulted in the face off the manager had with erstwhile team captain Vincent Enyeama on Tuesday in Belgium.

Oliseh had replaced the Lille goalkeeper with Ahmed Musa as captain on Tuesday following Enyeama’s late arrival for camping in Belgium ahead of the friendlies against DR Congo and Cameroon.

I won't take insults to my mother- Enyeama

             Vincent Enyeama
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has reacted to the face-off which occurred between him and the team’s coach, Sunday Oliseh, at their Hotel Verviers camp on Tuesday.

The Lille goalkeeper was stripped of his captaincy on Tuesday after his arrival in camp for the Eagles’ two friendly matches against DR Congo and Cameroon on October 8 and 11.

The captaincy was then handed to CSKA Moscow forward, Ahmed Musa, and efforts by Enyeama to explain himself were reportedly rebuffed by Oliseh, who refused to listen to him, saying he should leave the room for the team or the team would leave for him. The coach called on security officials to eject Enyeama from the camp before some officials of the Nigeria Football Federation waded in to calm the situation.
