#NigeriaDecides: We're Not Under Pressure To Declare Elections Inconclusive - Jega
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, said on Sunday that the commission was not under pressure to declare the results of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections inconclusive.
He also assured that collation and release of the results of the elections will begin by noon today.
According to the INEC chairman, results from two states were received last night, although reports indicated that the collation had reached 80 per cent and 90 per cent in some states.
Jega, at a press briefing in Abuja on the elections, said contrary to insinuations, the Smart Card Readers worked in most of the 150,000 polling units.
He said the failure of Card Readers was recorded in 374 of the 150,000 in the country, which was less than 1%.
Jega said: “We are not under any pressure to declare elections inconclusive. I wonder who will be interested in declaring inconclusive election. I want to believe that candidates would have wanted to be declared winners and not to have an election being declared inconclusive. Really, there is no truth whatsoever to that”.
He continued: “I have said that in 2011, INEC was able to declare the presidential election results within 48 hours and we have been working assiduously to be able to beat that record and so our hope and what we have been working for is to be able to declare the results within 48hours and, hopefully, in a much less time as we did in. 2011.
“So, the 48 hours commenced after the elections had ended yesterday (Saturday) when substantial majority of the polling units have concluded elections.
“According to reports from our state offices, the collation of results has commenced and is going on well.
“The first collated results for the presidential election are expected at the National Collation Centre here in Abuja by this evening (Sunday’s).
“Meanwhile, the commission warns strongly against premature publication and announcement of results by unauthorized persons and media channels particularly online sites.
“Only INEC is empowered by law to announce results and it is an offence for anyone to preempt the commission in this regard”.
He said INEC was investigating the failure of Card Readers in 374 Polling Units out if 150,000.
He said: “Obviously, we received reports from the field that the Card Readers were not reading and the numbers reported were alarming.
“From the statistics, however, 0.25 per cent of the total number of Card Readers were reported to have failed. We had deployed over 150,000.
“The percentage is statistically insignificant. Maybe only 374 Card Readers (less than 500) did not work. It was a tremendous achievement. We believe the use of Card Readers was the right decision under the circumstance.
“It is also gratifying to note that the Card Readers worked well in the majority of Polling Units, even though there were areas where difficulties experienced necessitated additional guidelines by the commission to allow for manual accreditation of voters, as announced yesterday.
“So far, Osun, Kebbi, Ekiti, Adamawa, Borno, Jigawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi states have reported reverting to manual-only accreditation of voters in some polling units.
“Investigations into what accounted for the difficulties encountered with the Card Readers are ongoing”.
Regarding the crisis in Rivers State, especially the abuse of the process, Jega promised that the commission will probe the alleged irregularities.
He said: “This morning, I received a letter from the APC political party calling for cancellation and postponing of the Rivers state elections.
“When we received this kind of letter of complaint, we do our best to thoroughly investigate them and we have commenced our investigations.
“The commission has not yet taken a decision, but we will take the decision and we will communicate our dec...

Election: Election Continues Tomorrow - INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said elections in polling units faced with challenges that has hindered voting will be held tomorrow.
“[…] in PUs where accreditation was suspended to the next day in accordance with the guidelines, arrangements will be made for voters to vote tomorrow, subject to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010,” a statement by INEC said.
Card readers at several polling units in the country had failed to work, making INEC to direct Presiding Officers to manually accredit voters upon being satisfied that the person presenting a PVC is the owner. However, accreditation has been slow in many places and has not commenced at all in others.
The electoral body said that the scale of the challenge observed has necessitated a reconsideration of the provision of the election guidelines.
Despite the challenges in some areas, the turnout was still impressive at several polling units in the country. Voters in some parts of Lagos defied the rain to vote and most did not even seek shelter as they queued to exercise their rights to vote.
With the new development, hopes of knowing Nigeria’s next leader by Monday might have been defeated as INEC now has several challenges to surmount to still ensure a free and fair election.
“The Comm [Commission] reassures the public that it will thoroughly investigate what happened while it stays committed to credible elections,” the INEC statement read.

Elections: APC warns against announcement of fake results
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned those planning to thwart the will of the people, by announcing fake result of Saturday’s elections to desist from such plot.
“As the President himself said in his national broadcast on Friday, ‘the will of the people freely expressed through the ballot is the bedrock of all democracies and ours cannot be an exception.’ We sincerely hope the President means those words and will allow the will of the people to prevail, irrespective of the outcome of the elections,” a statement by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said.
APC said the party was highly concerned at the secret meetings being held or planned across the country to rig the elections. It also lamented the violence being unleashed on its members.
It also alleged that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was making efforts to compromise electoral officers.
“In Ondo, we have been reliably informed that one Dayo Fadahunsi, SA to the State Governor on Labour, is coordinating a clandestine meeting on Friday evening with 12 Electoral Officers as well as the Administration Secretary of INEC in the state. There is also another meeting, also on Friday in Imeri, involving the Chief of Staff to the President, the DG of the National Sports Commission and Mr. Bode Olajumoke with four Electoral Officers (EOs) for the Akoko Local Government and Ose.
“In Ekiti, the EO of Ise-Orun is facilitating a meeting of all the other EOs in the state with Gov. Ayodele Fayose today, Friday, while in Osun, one Prince Fadahunsi is the arrowhead of another clandestine meeting that involves Senator Iyiola Omisore, Mr. Wale Oke and Dr. Olu Alabi.
“In Rivers, all 23 EOs are billed to meet with Mr. Peter Odili today, while a plot has been hatched to foment trouble in Obiakor, Okrika and Ommuma. For Bayelsa, a meeting was held at Bayelsa Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Monday, coordinated by former INEC Chairman Maurice Iwu and Barrister Azaga, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Bayelsa. They have recruited and deployed 36 former/retired INEC staff, representing one per state, to have access to INEC facilities especially Collation Centres to rig the elections. They are being accompanied by a Special Task Force of Security men to each state,” it said.
The party, however, said that Nigerians are monitoring all the moves by those determined to rig the elections. It therefore said there will be no hiding place.

10 Things Girls Absolutely Can't Stand About Being Girls
While us girls like to argue about being the better s*x (obviously), we’re the first to admit that boys have it so much easier. And, as if we didn’t hate boys enough, we’re also jealous of the laid-back, stress-free lives they seemingly lead.
Obviously there’s a crazy amount of cool things that come with being a girl but sometimes, the everyday monotony of dealing with life gets a little overwhelming.
We’re a pretty complex gender and often fail to determine what exactly we even want half of the time. But, given the number of things we simultaneously juggle, can you blame us?
I’ve got a list as long as my arm, which I’ll refrain from boring you with, but I’m sure most girls will nod in agreement at these simple but spot-on situations.
So, sit back, grab a tissue if you’re on your lady cycle, resist the urge to text back the assh*le if you’re having boy problems and ditch the Instagram explore page for just a minute.
Because here, my friends, are the 10 things we hate most about being girls:
1. Hormones
Not only is it bad enough that Mother Nature makes us bleed for five consecutive days, she also throws in stomach cramps and a backache for fun. Oh, but it doesn’t stop there.
We also have these unpredictable chemical substances that decide to erupt without warning.
Common symptoms include feeling fat 24/7 and uncontrollably sobbing into a tub of ice cream for no apparent reason.
If you think you might be experiencing hormones, grab your best friend, a blanket and some serious comfort food.
2. Childbirth
While we have a secret love for periods because it means we’ve avoided pregnancy for another month, when we finally do decide we’d like a family, we have to push a small human being out of a small hole known as a v**ina.
I don’t know about you, but the last time I checked, my lady hole didn’t look like a big enough exit.
I’m well aware of the power of pelvic bone expansion, but it genuinely makes us never want to have s*x again.
3. Boys
We like boys but we also sometimes hate them with every bone in our body.
I know there are some good eggs, but the majority of the time, it seems as though they’re few and far between.
We can’t seem to decide whether they actually just don’t ever think, or whether every move is calculated and intentional.
Whatever the rationale is behind it, we’re all kind of sick of the modern-day dating attitude. If you want our attention and respect, don’t be a man-hood.
4. UTIs
We don’t know how the hell cystitis was ever invented, but we do know that it hurts like hell.
The inflammation of the bladder certainly doesn’t sound healthy, and it’s one of the most common lady problems with which we have to deal.
The battle between desperately needing to wee, but knowing it will feel like you’re pissing fire shouldn’t be a ramification of enjoying s*x or not urinating five times a day. Thank God for cranberry juice.
5. Bitchy girls
This one’s a snore. We thought that when we left school, bitching would subside and every girl on the planet would just cuddle and be friends. But apparently, it’s not cool to smile, be polite to or compliment other girls.
It’s not fun to constantly be met with resting bitch face 24/7, but maybe us basic bitches with manners haven’t caught on to the let’s hate every single girl who breathes trend yet.
6. Instagram explore page
Oh my God. Can we not? There are two real issues with this place. First, it makes us depressed that we’re not skinny, tanned goddesses with perfectly-winged eyeliner and eyebrows on fleek.
Second, when we subconsciously double tap, it’s always on the photo that has about 12 likes as was posted by that girl you know, but don’t really know, who now probably thinks you stalk her. It’s an addictive, guilty pleasure that we just can’t seem to kick.
7. Shaving
Boyfriend-less winters are fab because we can practically start a fire...NinjaNews

Shell completes sale of OML18
Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) has completed the assignment of its 30 per cent interest in oil mining lease (OML) 18 and related facilities in the Eastern Niger Delta. Its interests in OML18 were assigned to Eroton Exploration & Production Company Limited. Total cash proceeds for Shell amounted to $737 million. This divestment is part of the strategic review of SPDC’s onshore portfolio and is in line with the Federal Government’s aim of developing Nigerian companies in the country’s upstream oil and gas business.
Through SPDC and its other Nigerian companies, Shell responsibly produces the oil and gas needed to help fuel the economic and industrial growth that generates wealth for the nation and jobs for Nigerians.
OML18 covers an area of 1,035 square kilometres and includes the Alakiri, Cawthorne Channel, Krakama, and Buguma Creek fields and related facilities. The divested infrastructure includes flow stations together with associated gas infrastructure plus oil and gas pipelines within the OML. The divested fields produced on average around 14,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (100 per cent) during 2014.
Total E&P Nigeria Limited and Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited have also assigned their interests of 10 per cent and 5 per cent respectively in the lease, ultimately giving Eroton Consortium a 45 per cent interest in OML18.

Surviving In America: Stories Of Nigerians
He picked me up from Logan International Airport, Boston, where I had gone to attend an African conference at Harvard earlier in the year. His faint but visible tribal marks prompted me to ask him of his nationality. I had concluded that he was one of us, but again, I've been wrong before, many times before. But when he hesitated, I knew at once that he was a Nigerian, for only Nigerians hesitate to respond when asked where they are from. Some would respond to this question with - "I am from West Africa", as if that were a country. Those of us who know that the region consists of more than ten countries would ask for a little more specificity. Only those Nigerians who are secure about their Nigeria-ness, say without hesitation, "I am from Nigeria", when asked where they are from.
Without an answer from him, I proceeded to ask what state in Nigeria he was from. He must have thought I had special powers, but no, it was nothing but instincts and many years of dealing with my people. He indicated that he had been in Boston for three years and had been driving cab for that long. He stated with a confident aura that he was an engineering graduate from University of Ife, "Great Ife", as he called it. He sounded very sharp and intelligent. His spoken English, which was capable of making the Queen herself turn green with envy, was crisp, alluring and impeccable, not the type one would expect from typical career cab drivers.
For the duration of the ride to Harvard, he convinced me of his articulate deposition and enduring qualities as a fine gentleman of repute. He indicated that he worked for construction giant Julius Berger in a management position while he was in Nigeria. In the midst of our casual conversation, it occurred to me that he must be bearing his cross in America as a new immigrant, a cross that most Nigerian immigrants bear once they arrive these shores. For some, it takes a few months to get their bearing and for others, many years and decades. The most critical issue, as in the case above, was that he was making an honest living and not involved (at least from the impression I got) in a life of crime like some of his fellow countrymen.
His story is very similar to those of many Nigerians who came to these shores with utopian ideas only to find otherwise. While they were in Nigeria, they thought that Nigerians in America who refused to send money home were simply wicked and uncaring. They always accused those Nigerians of being stingy and oblivious to the sufferings of their siblings, relatives and parents in Nigeria. But upon arriving in America, they soon come to discover that life is not all that easy. I know of many in my community who were established professionals in Nigeria only to start over in America all in search of Eldorado. The stories are endless; the experiences in some cases are chilling and others inspiring.
Surviving in America - Stories of Nigerians -
A few years ago, a family of five relocated to America from Nigeria. The husband was a Bio-Chemist from the University of Ibadan and the wife was a full professor of medicine. For the first three years, she remained home while the husband worked at a research lab at one of the universities in the area. After many months of staying at home, she became so frustrated that at some point, she contemplated returning to Nigeria as she was fed up with life in America. I cannot remember how many times she told us to pray for her on this matter.

This feeling was further compounded with the knowledge that she couldn't practice her profession without taking a litany of exams. She dreaded returning to the status of a common resident doctor. But there was no way around it; the American medical system is not all that friendly to foreign trained doctors. Dare4more..
Nigeria leadership lacks integrity in governance- ASUU
Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) has said that Nigeria leadership lacked integrity in governance, which resulted in a systematic and not a carefully designed agenda to paralyse public university education to make way for a market-based privatization of university education.
The union, through its President, Nasir Fagge Isa, spoke in Ibadan on Thursday at the 63rd University of Ibadan Postgraduate School Interdisciplinary discourse on the topic, “ASUU struggles and the revitilization of public university education in Nigeria.”
He said that ASUU’s struggles were predicated on the belief that “the university system is deformed, its driving philosophy is mortally damaged and its established purpose is still-born”.
But, the union lamented that the Federal Government policy for universities to generate funds internally had converted university professors to animal butchers and hawkers.
According to Fagge, “IGR policy of government has meant a shift of focus to production of bread, pure water, fish sale and sale of meat. Universities are now competing with the same peasant traders they are supposed to serve, some, like the University of Ibadan, close their campuses to goods from outsider and run a close economy while the Department of Economics teach competition and free market. that “ASUU struggles have helped to improve the infrastructural and manpower development in Nigerian universities.
“The postgraduate programme of the institution attracts over 10,000 applicants yearly and that there is a paradigm shift to online application, completion and submission of form of forms including referees of candidates.
“As the hub of training university teachers, certificates of postgraduate students are now collected on the day of convocation as a radical departure from the past.”

Letter to Single Women from Single Independent Woman
Yesterday, a single woman replied the open letter from a married woman.
Now, an unmarried independent woman has something to say about both letters and she has a different point of view. Read below..
Dear Single and Married Ladies,
Thank you all for your letters, they have been quite enlightening & entertaining, nonetheless, extremely misleading.
I cannot speak for every lady in Nigeria but I surely refuse to stand by and let the two of you individuals speak for all ladies. I am currently unmarried but I do not fall under any of the categories of ladies that have spoken.
Yes I believe that some single ladies are to blame for this nasty trend of extramarital relationships. In the same vein I also believe that these men are also responsible for this. This is a 2-way street. No one person can achieve a relationship on their own.
I am of pretty high moral standard. I am no goody 2-shoes but I have my standards and principles. I do not date married men. I do not accept money from men. There are many unmarried women like myself. We exist. We are not extinct. Young ladies and girls, please watch us, not these other species of women.
Married women, if your husband is cheating on you: your husband is to blame. You have to accept the fact that HE is the one who married you and owes you loyalty. He swore to be with you and you alone. You insist that ‘single ladies’ should be independent but you also have to take a closer look at yourself. Are you independent? Do you collect money for credit, hair, food and everything else from your husband? If your husband were to embarrass you so much with his philandering, are you independent enough to leave him. If he were to leave you for a ‘single lady’ would you have to go back to your parents house?
Single ladies, I will never support a woman or even be categorized with any one who thinks it’s okay to succumb to the pressure of prostitution. You make it sound trendy but its not. If you are sleeping with a man because he buys you gifts and plane tickets, then you are a clear-cut prostitute. There are no 2 definitions for it.
Ladies do not get vicious. Ladies do not cut people with razor. Ladies do not do jazz or whatever. Ladies are respectable and respect other ladies.
Ladies, we have to have each other’s backs. We have to support each other and promote each other. Stop pouring sand in other people’s garri.
On another note, if you are being abused at home please speak up. If a man has ever forced you to commit sexual acts you did not consent to, please speak up. No do domestic violence. No to rape.
Signed
Unmarried, independent woman.
Messi, Enrique Laud Oustanding Joe Hart
Lionel Messi has described Joe Hart’s display as “absolutely fantastic” after the Manchester City goalkeeper produced torrents of saves in last night’s 1-0 defeat away to Barcelona FC.
Had the English goalkeeper not commanded some brave goalkeeping salvage at the Camp Nou, outcome of the Uefa Champions League round-of-16 second leg tie would have headlined an unfair mauling of the reigning Premier League champions.
“He saved everything,” said Messi. “We had a lot of clear chances but the keeper had a brilliant game.

“We can only congratulate him, but the important thing is we achieved our objective to get through.”
Ivan Rakitic’s superb goal midway through the first half was the only dent to Hart’s display in a game Messi also described as “pretty spectacular,” as the Catalans sealed their passage to the quarter-finals 3-1 on aggregate scores.

The 27-year-old, who also saved a penalty from Argentine forward in the first leg at Etihad Stadium, made 10 saves on the night.
“I had a lot to do, but I wanted it to count,” said Hart.
“Make no bones about it, Barcelona were the better team in both legs, but we hung on in there, defended and made saves, and made tackles.”

He added: “They (Barcelona) are a very good team, they know what they’re doing, they’ve got a lot of belief in what they do and they’ve got Lionel Messi.”
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique also lauded Hart, saying: “The score could have been a rout. Hart was incredible.
“We had a lot of chances, which is not normal in this type of game. We deserved to win by a bigger goal difference.”

How To Know If His Kisses Really Mean I Love You
Mate to break it to you, ladies, but just because someone uses the words, “I love you,” doesn’t mean he actually means them. If this article comes as a slap in the face, I hope you can ditch whomever you’re seeing, and find someone else who will love you the way every woman deserves to be loved.
Here are 8 ways you can decide if his kisses actually mean, “I love you.”
1. You don’t have to justify his behavior
If you feel like you are constantly defending his actions, then you might want to reconsider your relationship. If he is treating you right, then you won’t have to defend his stupid mistakes. Your friends and family will support the relationship because they see how well he treats you.
2. He is forgiving
Both of you are going to make mistakes. Chances are you are going to get angry over something really stupid when you’re on your period and possibly blow up for no reason. But if he is willing to forgive you for your weaknesses and dumb moves, then he is worth fighting for. He doesn’t throw them in your face, and he lets things go.
3. If he says he’ll do something, he actually does it
If he says he is going to call you at 10, he calls you at 10. If he promises that he’ll take you out on Friday, he takes you out on Friday. If he stays true to his word, and you can trust that he’ll follow through, he is a keeper.
4. He is the ultimate protector
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who is right or wrong, what matters to him is how you feel. You can still disagree, but he will never, ever say anything that is verbally abusive or unkind. He is quick to apologize for his mistakes and protects your feelings like they are his own.
5. He isn’t dating other people
If he’s kissing other girls the same time he’s kissing you, then he isn’t in love with you. Run away from that relationship as fast as you can. Love is about commitment. No excuses. If he isn’t willing to say you’re his, then he isn’t worth the time. If he is running around behind your back now, even slapping a ring on it isn’t going to stop him from running around later.
6. He likes you even when you throw up all over him
When you are sick, throwing up and haven’t showered in a while, what does he do? Does he say you’re beautiful, stay by your side and clean out your barf bowl? Or does he run away screaming? True love comes in sickness, not just in health.
7. He makes you a priority
He shows up for the important moments in your life — even the dumb ones. If he knows your best friend’s birthday party is important to you, then he’ll make sure he’s there. If he texts you in the morning to wish you luck on your big presentation, or gives up a boy’s night to comfort you after a bad day, then he is making his priorities known. At the end of the day, he is willing to put you first.
8. He plans his future with you in mind
If he truly loves you, then ultimately, he will want to merge lives with you. That means making plans together. If he talks about the future with you in it, then that’s a pretty good sign that he isn’t looking for a one-night-stand but a lasting, meaningful relationship.
Many people say that a good man is hard to find. (And they’re right.) But it’s worth the wait. You will discover his worth in the choices he makes and the little things he does for you each day. Then you will know you have found someone pretty special — kissably special — in every way.

Almajiri Writes Letter to First Lady Patience Jonathan
Dear Madam First Lady: I Lack The Patience To Wait For Good Luck!
I am almajiri because I am from the North and one of the products of the Polygamous family, if you “hate” me, you don’t have to wait to a moment that your husband needs my vote before you come with your pretense.
I knew long ago that the killings in my region were allowed to be because, you don’t like my face. So, hold it, you don’t have to tell anyone to “stone” me because of my political party affiliation, you can use the soldiers to continue to kill me when they come to polling units, on the basis that “Nigeria’s economy is in your pocket”.
You are intoxicated not from the amount of beer your husband drinks, but for the power that you are enjoying.
Painfully, for all your utterances recently, you have killed your husband politically.
Yours,
Almajiri (#myvotemyright)

5 Things Men Love About Black Women
5 Things Men Love About Black Women
INFORMATION NIGERIA / tosin / 2 hours ago
Is it really true that Black men don’t want to date Black women? There are so many loud voices blasting that message. But just because someone speaks loudly, doesn’t mean they’re telling the truth! I’m here to set the record straight, and I asked some men to help me.
They told me 5 things men love about Black women (you’re gonna love this!)
1) Your curves
The brothers told me they love your hips, lips and fingertips! In fact, a 50-year-old bachelor confessed that many people assume he wants a caucasian woman because of where he lives. “I want a sister!” he told me, emphatically. “And I don’t want a skinny woman either. I want a woman with curves.”
2. Your independence
Men love a woman who is secure in herself but can still show a man that she needs and wants him in her life.
3) Your confidence
One bachelor told me that he finds a woman with strong confidence “intriguing.” He loves a sister who knows her purpose and who can wear any outfit flawlessly, no matter her size.
4. Your strength
Men need a safe place to take off their superman capes and reveal their insecurities. They find that security in Black women. One man put it this way: “I love the strength and support that our sisters provide. When a strong sister has your back, there is no mountain that a Brother cannot climb!!!!”
5. Your vulnerability
The guys told me they appreciate a woman who will tell the “raw truth,” even if she’s afraid of how her man might respond. They told me, they want to know what you need to be happy in a relationship, and they want you to speak your truth.
Some of the other things the men love about sisters are your natural hairstyles, your intelligence, and your classiness! Sisters, you are flawless!

Photo: Patience Jonathan Dumps Private Jet For Commercial Flight
Flying in private jet has become a trend and a sort of competition among the rich in Nigeria.
The president, governors and other top politicians rarely fly with commercial flights as they own private jets.
It appears the Nigeria’s First Lady and wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan flies commercial sometimes.
She was spotted a while back on a British Airways commercial flight from Abuja to London.
Patience, her children, aides and protocol flew first class and were picked up directly from the plane by a bulletproof car.
On arrival, British Airways passengers looked on as a bulletproof car picked them up directly from the plane
Patience Jonathan has been in the news lately. She recently asked Nigerian women to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next month’s general elections, saying the opposition party will take the country back to analog days.
The APC presidential campaign organisation filed a formal complaint against her for calling on Peoples’ Democratic Party supporters to “stone” anyone who come to the state asking for change. Info9ja

U.N. Finds 'Alarmingly High' Levels of Violence Against Women
UNITED NATIONS — The evidence is ubiquitous. The gang rape of a young woman on a bus in New Delhi sets off an unusual burst of national outrage in India. In South Sudan, women are assaulted by both sides in the civil war. In Iraq, jihadists enslave women for sex. And American colleges face mounting scrutiny about campus rape.
Despite the many gains women have made in education, health and even political power in the course of a generation, violence against women and girls worldwide “persists at alarmingly high levels,” according to a United Nations analysis that the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is scheduled to present to the General Assembly on Monday.
About 35 percent of women worldwide — more than one in three — said they had experienced violence in their lifetime, whether physical, sexual, or both, the report finds. One in 10 girls under the age of 18 was forced to have sex, it says.
The subject is under sharp focus as delegates from around the world gather here starting on Monday to assess how well governments have done since they promised to ensure women’s equality at a landmark conference in Beijing 20 years ago — and what to do next.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, who attended the Beijing conference in 1995, is scheduled to speak on Tuesday.
Since the Beijing conference, there has been measurable, though mixed, progress on many fronts, according to the United Nations analysis.
As many girls as boys are now enrolled in primary school, a sharp advance since 1995. Maternal mortality rates have fallen by half. And women are more likely to be in the labor force, though the pay gap is closing so slowly that it will take another 75 years before women and men are paid equally for equal work.
The share of women serving in legislatures has nearly doubled, too, though women still account for only one in five legislators. All but 32 countries have adopted laws that guarantee gender equality in their constitutions.
But violence against women — including rape, murder and sexual harassment — remains stubbornly high in countries rich and poor, at war and at peace. The United Nations’ main health agency, the World Health Organization, found that 38 percent of women who are murdered are killed by their partners.
Even as women’s groups continue to push for laws that criminalize violence — marital rape is still permitted in many countries — new types of attacks have emerged, some of them online, including rape threats on Twitter.
Where there are laws on the books, like ones that criminalize domestic violence, for instance, they are not reliably enforced.
The economic impact is huge. One recent study found that domestic violence against women and children alone costs the global economy $4 trillion.
“Over all, as you look at the world, there have been no large victories in eradicating violence against women,” said Valerie M. Hudson, a professor of politics at Texas A & M University who has developed world maps that chart the status of women. The vast majority of countries, by her metrics, do not have laws that protect women’s physical safety.
In some cases, the laws on the books are the problem, women’s rights advocates say. In some countries, like Nigeria, the law permits a man to beat his wife under certain circumstances. But even when laws are technically adequate, victims often do not feel comfortable going to law enforcement, or they are unable to pay the bribes required to file a police report.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the executive director of the United Nations agency for gender equity and women’s empowerment — known as UN Women — said that for the laws to mean anything, governments around the world have to persuade their police officers, judges and medical personnel to take violence against women seriously.
“I am disappointed, I have to be honest,” she said about the stubborn hold of violence against women. “More than asking for more laws to be passed, I’m asking for implementation.”

3 Things You Should Always Tell Your Wife
When it comes to relationships a lot of us men could use some help in knowing how to make things better. We don’t always understand women (if ever for some) but we have to learn the things we can improve upon when we are in or want to be in a relationship, and especially a marriage. What they feel should be common sense to us, sometimes eludes our minds. So to try to help correct that issue I give you 3 things you should always tell your woman, and should help improve your relationship with her.
The Truth
I completely understand how difficult it can be to be completely honest with women. We feel many can’t handle the truth and sometimes the truth might get us a slashed tire or a verbal lashing. What we are failing to realize is that with every lie you tell your partner, you setup a bigger downfall later. Lies eventually come out, and when they do the trust level in your relationship takes a bigger hit. This can lead into other issues and the deterioration of your relationship.
Honesty may not always be what we want, but it is what we need.
We men have to learn that a lot of times it’s not what you say, but how you say it. Yes, some things are going to get negative backlash, regardless. But when the smoke clears, you won’t have compounded the issues with more lies. Honesty may not always be what we want, but it is what we need. For those of you thinking “well if I told her the truth then she may leave me.” My suggestion to you is to stop doing things you will feel the need to lie about to your partner. Take a more effective approach to addressing the issues and you won’t put yourself in that unwanted predicament.
She Is Beautiful
I don’t care if she just woke up looking like a train just hit her. You should always be able to look your woman in the eye and tell her how beautiful she is. What may seem like a simple gesture to you, can mean so much to your woman. It’s not necessarily just about the words spoken, but she wants to know you desire her and think highly of her. Trying to get some booty from her on a regular is cool (in regards to showing desire) but it isn’t going to speak to her heart like telling her and showing her how much she means to you and how beautiful she is.
Many of us men tend to overlook the simple things that hold a lot of meaning to a woman. Compliments can be very important. This doesn’t mean you have to say these things every single day, because it may start losing its impact (consult with your woman on that because this opinion can vary). Just make sure you make an effort to do it and be genuine with it. (Side Note: If you already have the habit of telling your woman how sexy she is that’s great. Just understand that is not the same thing as telling her she is beautiful. Many women may view “sexy” as something more s*xual while “beautiful” speaks more to her as a person.)
Your Business
I already know what many are thinking. “Why the hell does she need to know all my business?”…”What happened to respecting people’s privacy?”…” She knows too damn much already” and so on. I get it, but this isn’t the way to think in a marriage. This is your wife, and it is important to let her into your world. That doesn’t mean you can’t have some space and do you (to a certain extent). It just means allowing her to be aware of things, opening up to her more, and sharing your life with her. This will only strengthen the bond of the relationship and that is a great thing. Choosing to exclude her will open the door to other issues. It gets a little harder to trust someone when you don’t know what is going on in their life. You run the risk of making her feel less valued and less loved. You also make it easier for people outside the relationship to have a negative impact on it. If you can’t let her in to your world then why did you get married?. You really have some things that you need to look at or work through if you are not emb...Info9ja

Why We Still Need International Women's Day
International Women’s Day: A glance at the last seven days of news in the UK sadly proves the case for this annual celebration, argues Radhika Sanghani
Not everyone ‘gets’ International Women’s Day (IWD). There are many people who don’t appreciate the idea of giving women a day to celebrate their achievements and shine a light on the continuing struggle for gender equality.
What’s the point of giving women an entire day as a worldwide holiday? they ask. OK, IWD kind of made sense when it began in the 1900s during the suffragettes’ fight for women’s rights, but now that women have the vote, western law treats them equally, and women aren’t expected to be stay-at-home housewives, do we really need it?
In a nutshell, yes. Yes, we do.
IWD2015 isn’t just a hashtag; it’s a reminder that women aren’t treated equally to men across the world. Women worldwide are subjected to shocking abuse from sexual violence in warzones and female genital mutilation, to forced marriage and becoming child brides.
No one can deny that these things shouldn’t happen, and that women should be afforded more rights. But what the doubters tend to say here is that this is all happening abroad; that IWD doesn’t concern us here in the UK – it’s just another ‘raising awareness’ exercise to show inequality across the world.
Except that just isn't true. Every day British women are beaten, sexually abused, and murdered. Violence against women and girls is systematic, and on top of that, all women face everyday sexism – whether it’s in the workplace or the street.
Think you’ve heard it all before? Well, here’s the proof.
The following seven incidents all appeared in the news this week, and they all took place here in the UK:
1) 16-year-old Becky Watts was murdered. The Bristol teenager went missing on February 19, and this week detectives received information her body parts had been ‘cut up’. Her stepbrother Nathan Matthews, 28, has been charged with her murder.
Becky Watts was described as 'wonderful' by her family
2) Danielle Liddle, 22, was beaten with baseball bats and slashed in the face while she was in labour. On Monday she was just about to leave for the hospital when a gang of five masked men smashed into her house and attacked her with crowbars and a knife.
She gave birth to a healthy baby boy despite her injuries but her partner says she is still too traumatised to go home and may have a fractured skull.
3) Pennie Davis, 47, was stabbed to death to stop her making a sexual assault claim, a jury heard this week. The mother and horse lover is alleged to have been murdered to stop her going to the police and saying that 22-year-old Ben Carr – her partner’s son - had indecently assaulted someone.
4) 15-year-old schoolgirl Toni Connell died after being bullied. It’s not yet clear how she died but police aren’t treating it as suspicious, and her mother Amanda Connell said this week that she believed cyber-bullying led to her daughter’s death, as well as academic pressure.
5) A female police officer was pushed onto train tracks by a drunk man in Manchester. Kevin Pythian, 32, scuffled with the 36-year-old woman, before pushing her off the train platform. The fall knocked her unconscious and left her with a gashed head, broken fingers and cuts and bruises.
6) The Home Office told a Nigerian asylum seeker that she can’t be a lesbian because she has children. Aderonke Apata, 47, could now be deported back to her home country which can punish homosexuality with up to 14 years in prison. Apata has a fiancée, Happiness Agboro, and even submitted footage of her sex life to the Government to prove her sexuality.

Africa's Future Billionaires Will be Farmers- Adesina
TheAfrica’s future millionaires and billionaires will make their money from agriculture as the governments marshal out plans to unlock wealth from the soil.
Adesina made his prediction on Friday in Abuja as the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) launched the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Program Phase 1 (ATASP-1) at the federal capital territory.
The ATASP-1 is financed by AfDB to the tune of $170 million and aims at creating additional incomes to an increased number of producers and entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector in Nigeria by providing about 120,000 jobs along the value chain of priority commodities. An additional 20 million tons of key commodity food crops including cassava, rice, and sorghum will be added to the domestic food supply each year.
A significant part of the project is developing outreach models with young entrepreneurs in agriculture, “IITA youth agripreneurs”. The Agripreneurs are promoting agriculture among other young people in their regions through peer education, training and demonstration of agricultural best practices, and business skills in value chain development.
Adesina underlined that “Africa’s future millionaires and billionaires will make their money from agriculture,” as the governments marshal out plans to unlock wealth from the soil. He estimated that the bulk of this new wealthy population will be made up of young people adept at creating jobs for millions in each African country and bringing business opportunities to rural communities all across the continent. He therefore urged the youth to stop seeing agriculture as a tool for development but as a business.
“Today, major local and international investors are investing in this sector. The number of seed companies alone has risen dramatically and the banks are lending to the sector more than ever before,” he said.

I Wasn't Trying To Seduce The President- Seyi Shay
Most entertainers have been having fun with President Goodluck Jonathan in recent times and earlier in the week, the President was in Lagos and hanged out with some of these celebrities.
Singer, Seyi Shay was among the entertainers and the pretty diva ‘broke’ the internet with the dress she wore to meet the president at the event.
The picture where the singer, wearing an incredibly short dress, while sitting beside the president, went viral and so many fans and foes have expressed their feelings concerning Seyi’s outfit.
Many people, including celebrities and notable figures such as comedian Wale Gates; social analyst, Omojuwa, took to their social media accounts to express their feelings over her choice of outfit.
However, when Saturday Beats contacted the singer, she explained that she had two outfits for the event and the outfit that caused the stir was what she wore to perform.
She emphasised that she is a respectable lady and was not planning to seduce the president in any way.
“I am a very respectable young lady and I was not in any way trying to seduce the President with the outfit I wore. I had two outfits for the event, one was for my performance and the other was worn after I performed. The dress I was pictured in with the President was what I wore during my performance.
“I came on stage and greeted everyone according to their culture and I did the same for Mr. President. He was impressed and he asked where and how I knew how to greet in his native dialect and I said I learnt it. That was what brought about the giggling and smiles in the picture. I’m a performer and what I do on stage doesn’t reflect my everyday life. I had two outfits on that day and it was a youth event. Who wouldn’t feel overwhelmed meeting the President? Well, I did and I felt honoured because it is not every day you get to meet the president of your country,” she said.
Seyi said her fans should expect her much anticipated album at the last quarter of the year.
“I am busy working on my album and it would be out by the last quarter of the year. I promise not to disappoint my fans. I would deliver because I love you all,” she said.

Pastor Chris & Anita Reportedly Share Their Two Children
Months after the seperation of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder of Christ Embassy Church and his wife Pastor Anita, the estranged couple have reportedly shared their two children.
While Sharon, the eldest, prefers Pastor Chris, Charlene is presently with Anita.
Anita had last year April approached a London court, seeking a divorce on the grounds of adultery among several allegations.
The suit, number FDI 4001650, was filed on her behalf by Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors on April 9, 2014 at the Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, United Kingdom.
Pastor Chris was served the divorce letters in his hotel room during one of his visits to the UK.
Efforts to reach the camp of Pastor Chris last night proved abortive.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, had then denied the allegations leveled against him by Anita and even threatened to sue media houses for damaging his name and Church.
Last September, a statement by his counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), described the allegation as “wicked and malicious”, and an attempt to bring Pastor Chris “to public opprobrium and ridicule.”
Pinheiro said the adultery allegation “currently circulating in the media was nothing but a complete distortion of facts in the pending proceedings in the United Kingdom”.
The lawyer warned media establishments to verify the authenticity of their stories before publication, saying his counsel would take appropriate legal actions against them to protect Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s reputation and that of the church.

Why We Suggested Shift In Dates Of Elections- Military
The military, yesterday, explained why it suggested that the election dates be shifted, clarifying that its advice had no political undertone.
According to the military, the reason for its suggestion for a shift was to enable it take delivery of the long awaited weapons with which to tackle terrorists in the North eastern part of the country.
“I do not want to bring politics into it, whoever wants to bring politics into what we are doing, it’s left for him. I want whoever is saying that to know that war machines are not picked up from the shelf, if it were, we would have got them,” Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh said while receiving drugs and other items worth over N70 million donated by the Association of Pharmaceutical Importers of Nigeria (APIN), to assist the Nigerian Armed Forces in the war against Boko Haram insurgency.
“When you make orders, it takes time to produce and it takes time also to train on them. So, we did not place the orders today, we had placed orders before now and when they started coming, we asked for more time to combat the insurgents before the elections. I can guarantee you that there is no politics in the demand for shift in date, it is just because we were receiving the equipment.”
Badeh urged Nigerians to support the military, as this would ensure victory against the sect.
“Part of the overall strategy of tackling insecurity is to build synergy with the civil populace, especially for support and vigilance in reporting the activities of suspicious elements and the movements of insurgents.
“This is borne out of our strong conviction that the war against insurgents is not a war for the armed forces alone. As I have always said, when the military is at war, it is not the military alone that is at war, rather it is the entire nation.
“Accordingly, all instrument of national power, ranging from diplomatic, informational, military to economic are employed to ensure that threats to national security are contained and defeated.”
The CDS commended APIN and other companies who earlier made similar donations to the military. He said such gesture was a clear demonstration of concern and support for the military in the ongoing war against terrorists, despite antics of some unpatriotic persons.
EPL Update: Chelsea Stay 5 Points Clear
West Ham 0-1 Chelsea
Eden Hazard headed home the match-winner on Wednesday night to keep Chelsea five points clear at the summit of the Premier League table.
A dominant first-half performance by the Blues was complimented by Eden Hazard, who headed in Ramires’ cross following a brilliant move he orchestrated. It was the Belgian’s tenth league goal of the season.
The Upton Park hosts huffed and puffed at goal in the second half but lacked clinical touches in the vital area, with Thibaut Courtois twice denying Diafra Sakho in quick succession and defender Garry Cahill blocking the Senegalese’s shot off the Chelsea goalkeeper’s rebound of Enner Valencia’s shot.
The Hammers goalkeeper Adrian pulled off a superb save with his feet off Ramires’s header from Hazard’s dinked corner.
Brazilian midfielder, Ramires, one of two changes in manager Jose Mourinho’s starting XI from the League Cup triumph at the weekend, fired a low shot against the post in the 56th minute.
Man City 2-0 Leicester
David Silva and James Milner both scored to set Premier League strugglers Leicester City apart as Manchester City returned to winning ways.
Silva rolled in from six yards after his initial effort was brilliantly blocked by Wes Morgan.
Leicester were denied a penalty when Fernando tripped Andrej Kramaric on the edge of the champions’ box.
Riyad Mahrez’s spectacular 20-yard effort came off the base of the post following a slight deflection off a defender and with Joe Hart well beaten.
There was not to be an equaliser in the end as Milner arrived on time in the Foxes box to smash home a Jesus Navas cross.
Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd
Ashley Young Scored to Help Man Utd Scrape Victory at Newcastle. Image: Getty.
Ashley Young pounced on a late error by goalkeeper Tim Krul to seal a vital victory for Manchester United at Newcastle.
It was a cruel end for Krul who had mustered some fine saves for the Magpies before conceding a horrible goal with just a minute to full-time. The Dutch goalkeeper- under pressure- played Mehdi Abeid’s backpass straight at Young, who made no mistake but scored his first goal in 400 days.
Man United defender Jonny Evans and Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse apparently spat at each other in a heated exchange during the first half.
Jonas Guitierez returned to action for the first-time in seventeen months- since he was diagnosed of cancer- and, even took the captain armband.
Angel Di Maria had another subdued performance at St. James’ Park and thus endured an inevitable “What a waste of money” taunt from the home fans while making way for substitute Adnan Januzaj in the 58th minute.

Stoke 2-0 Everton
Victor Moses scored a delightful header in the 32nd minute as Mame Biram Diouf grabbed Stoke’s second to heap more emphasis on Everton’s poor domestic form.
Moses raised high to thump his powerful header into the top corner from inside the box off Phil Bardsley’s perfect cross. The Nigeria international has now scored his fourth goal of the league season.
Diouf added salt to the Toffees’ injury late on, turning in a rebound of Marko Anautovic’s shot which came off the post.

Everton- though through to the round of 16 of the Uefa Europa League- are without a win in five Premier League games and have 28 points from 28 matches- six points above the relegation zone.
QPR 1-2 Arsenal

EPL Update: Poyet & Bruce In Tounchline Tussle
Hull 1-1 Sunderland
Dame N’Doye’s goal placed Hull City ahead but it was the moment of fracas between coaches Steve Bruce and Gustavo Poyet that emerged the talking point in a hard-fought contest at the KC Stadium.
Sunderland’s Poyet lost his cool after Jack Rodwell was booked for diving. Replay suggested referee Mike Dean was right but the Uruguayan tactician was having none of the video simulation, at whose point he was already over at Bruce’s corner to have a word.
Whatever Poyet must have said did not go down well with the English manager, who was held back from going after his counterpart on his way to the stands after being sent off.

But on the field of play, Senegalese forward Ndoye flicked in Tom Huddlestones low free-kick for his third goal in four matches.
Rodwell converted Patrick van Aaanholt’s cross in the 77th minute- though with the ball appearing to come off his hand- to help maintain Sunderland’s push for Premier League survival.
Ndoye missed a golden opportunity to grab the match-winning goal moments after the equaliser, with Costel Panitilimon denying his close-range header.
Aston Villa 2-1 West Brom
Tim Sherwood earned his first points as Aston Villa boss as Christian Benteke’s dramatic late penalty secure a first win in 12 games for the Premier League strugglers against West Brom.

Gabriel Agbonlahor, moments after shooting straight at Ben Foster, ended a run of 14 Premier League matches without a goal in the 22nd minute, firing low through the West Brom goalkeeper’s legs from an angle after a Benteke flick on.
Villa skipper Fabian Delph struck the woodwork at the break but it was their Midlands neighbours who were celebrating six minutes after the hour mark, as Saido Berahino’s close-range header from Joleon Lescott’s headed pass restored parity.
Both sides were scuttling for a disappointing draw before West Brom goalkeeper Foster lunged at Matthew Lowton and Benteke stepped up to bury in from the spot on the nick of full-time.
It was Villa’s first win since 7 December, enough to lift them out of the relegation zone- three points clear of Queens Park Rangers (QPR) who have two games in hand.
Southampton 1-0 Crystal Palace
Sadio Mane Goal Against Crystal Palace Ends Southampton’s Run of Barren Luck in Front of Home Fans. Image: Getty.
Southampton kept hopes of Uefa Champions League qualification alive as Sadio Mane ended their home goal drought with a composed 83rd-minute finish.
The Senegalese chipped over Julian Speroni after the Palace goalie failed to handle James Ward-Prowse’s shot. It was his sixth goal of the season and first Southampton goal at St. Mary’s Stadium in six hours, 27 minutes.
The defeat brought an end to Palace’s run of five away league matches without defeat since Alan Pardew took over, though the visitors put up a good fight with Wilfried Zaha’s drilled effort coming off the woodwork immediately after the restart.

The Zonal Coordinator of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board in Benue State, Mr. Samuel Umoru, said on Tuesday that the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examinations candidates, who were arrested during a protest, might not sit the forthcoming examination, unless the police release them.
Some candidates for UTME in the state had, Monday, protested against their inability to access the JAMB website, where they would print their examination details.
No fewer than 70 of the protesters were arrested by the police.
The 2015 UTME examinations start on Monday, March 9.
However, fielding questions from newsmen in Makurdi, Umoru noted that the action of the aggrieved candidates was unnecessary, noting that JAMB could not deliberately cause them untold hardship.
Umoru said the police were still investigating the matter, adding that the candidates could not be released until their interrogation was concluded.
He said the police might charge the candidates to court.
He said, “I cannot guarantee the release of the arrested candidates for now and whether they will be allowed to write the forthcoming examinations; only the police can determine that.”
According to him, the protesters destroyed part of the agency’s building, vandalised a transformer as well as some vehicles belonging to staff of the board.

Unexpected Lessons From 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'
Cross Cuts
By A. O. SCOTT
“A man watches a movie, and the critic must acknowledge that he is that man.” So wrote Robert Warshow, almost exactly 60 years ago, setting down what would become an unofficial motto for the profession. The idea that movies and other forms of popular culture could be subjected to serious critical scrutiny was a new and controversial notion in American intellectual circles at the time, and Warshow wanted to make clear that any such criticism would have to take account of its origins in everyday experience. Wherever your thoughts and judgments might take you, you always start out as a consumer, a member of the audience, a fan.
By now, the idea that criticism starts with what Warshow called “the immediate experience” seems inarguable, at least in principle. Sometimes, though, a critic may watch a movie and wonder, “Man, what am I doing here?” The blithe sexism of Warshow’s formulation is very much to the point here. In our own era, the universalism implicit for Warshow in the words “movies” and “man” can no longer be taken for granted. The entertainment industry does business through careful demographic sorting, dividing its potential public by age, gender, region and race, and hoping to hit as many of those disparate targets as possible. At the same time, members of the public are accustomed to looking at themselves and one another through various lenses of identity, and to spotting the biases and blind spots in what they read.
So a critic may still be — speaking strictly for myself — a man watching a movie, but he doesn’t want to be that guy, the one who either sets himself above the common experience or remains clueless about the different impressions a movie can make. Let me put it another way: I’m still kind of hung up on “Fifty Shades of Grey,” a movie that stirred up all kinds of curious feelings and that continues to exercise a strange power over my innocent mind.
Sorry to get all confessional. The “Fifty Shades” phenomenon has inspired a widespread loosening of inhibitions. Long before the film opened on Feb. 13, E. L. James’s trilogy of novels about the romance between a naïve college student named Anastasia Steele and a handsome billionaire named Christian Grey was a topic of discussion in book clubs, online forums, and (a bit later) among opinion writers and literary critics. The global popularity of the books — 100 million copies is the number most frequently bandied around — has seemed to open a window into an often hidden zone of the collective psyche, adding a voyeuristic thrill to the dreary work of deadline-driven cultural analysis.

And also providing an irresistible opportunity to moralize on the subject of women’s sexuality. There were objections to the way Christian and Anastasia’s affair seemed to blur the line between consensual B.D.S.M. and abuse, and debates about whether the popularity of the books represented an advance for feminism, the durability of traditional gender roles, the terminal decadence of Western civilization or a boon for the sex-toy industry.
The film’s release, and its domination of the Valentine’s Day box office, revived these questions and raised some new ones, including about the differences between what happens on the page and on the screen. The books go as far as Ms. James’s and her readers’ imaginations can take them, detailing the things Christian likes to do with Anastasia and Anastasia’s sometimes confused, sometimes ecstatic responses to them. (“Orgasm! Another one!”) Sam Taylor-Johnson’s film version, constrained by the decorum of the multiplex-friendly R rating, takes a softer-core, more indirect approach. And while this discrepancy is hardly surprising, it brings up an especially vexed issue in this era of promiscuous cross-franchising. How much fidelity do readers require from film. NYtimes.com
