CAF Champions League holders TP Mazembe booked their spot in the round of 16 of the competition after enjoying a 1-0 win over Saint George in Lubumbashi on Sunday.
Jonathan Bolingi scored the winner from the penalty spot for the Ravens two minutes from time.
Held to a 2-2 draw in Addis Ababa in the first leg of their first round tie, the five-time African champions progressed 3-2 on aggregate.
Mazembe’s fellow Congolese heavyweights AS Vita Club are also through in Africa’s most prestigious club tournament with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Ferroviario Maputo of Mozambique, courtesy of a 1-1 draw in Maputo following their 1-0 home win in Kinshasa a week ago.
2014 African champions ES Sétif finished the job at home against Etoile du Congo with a convincing 4-2 win, after holding their opponents to a 1-1 draw in Brazzaville in the first leg.
Central African Republic international striker Eudes Dagoulou hit a hat-trick to help the Black Eagles through to the round of 16.
Meanwhile, fellow Algerian outfit MO Béjaia overturned their 1-0 first-leg deficit against Tunisia’s Club Africain with a 2-0 home win, and Zambia’s ZESCO United managed to get past Horoya AC of Guinea despite suffering a 2-0 loss in Conakry.
However, continental powerhouses Al Hilal, Coton Sport and Kaizer Chiefs crashed out of the competition.
Defeated 1-0 by Al-Ahli Tripoli in Tunis a week ago, the Khartoum giants fell victim to the away goals rule after recording a 2-1 home win in the reverse fixture, while Coton Sport and Kaizer Chiefs failed to overturn their first-leg deficit.
Beaten 2-0 by Stade Malien in Bamako, the Cameroonian champions had to settle for a 1-0 home win in Garoua, as Amakhosi played out a goalless draw in Abidjan following their 0-1 home loss in Johannesburg in the first leg.
