Run smart, break records, Etuokwu tells athletes

Elite runners jostling for the $50,000 top prize of the Access Bank Lagos Marathon have been challenged to produce record breaking performances, when they hit the road tomorrow morning.
Access Bank executive director, Victor Etuokwu made the charge yesterday, while speaking at a news briefing in Lagos. He said the athletes need to do more than angle for the prizes at stake, but reach into their deepest reserve to break records.

“I urge all runners to run hard, run smart and break records. This is because when they do so, it will go down in history that those performances were made at the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon,” said Mr. Etuoke.

He commended the organising committee for doing a great job of bringing the race into world reckoning, adding that more needs to be done so that the race will earn an IAAF gold label status.

Over 100,000 runners have registered for the 42km and 10km races. It will be flagged off at the usual starting point at the National Stadium, winding through Lagos via the Third Mainland Bridge before finishing at the Eko Atlantic City.

The 10km race will start off at Lekki Phase 1 and also end at the Eko Atlantic City.
