This is definitely the best of times for the Nigeria Professional Football League as one of its new but trail blazing clubs, FC IfeanyiUbah Wednesday signed a partnership pact with English Premiership club, West Ham United in an elaborate ceremony at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos.
The event which was attended by Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba, Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick and the second Vice President who doubles as chairman of the League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko saw the Chairman, FC IfeanyiUbah, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah and Managing Director, West Ham United Football Club, Angus Kinnear sign the pact.
The event also attracted a large turnout of ex-Super Eagles players and players of FC IfeanyiUbah.
Speaking at the event, Ifeanyi Ubah said, “I see sports as business and I have never started a business venture that didn’t succeed. I want to attract investments and tourism to Anambra State through this venture.”
He said that the FC IfeanyiUbah partnership with West Ham United involves multiple interests that include, but not limited to “exploring the potential of our youths in the international scene, increased revenue for our club, training of our personnel, scouting, football development, transfer of players, playing friendly matches, etc.
Above all, our parent company, Capital Oil has been given more visibility internationally, as you find the company’s name on the pitch panel in West Ham’s home games. The benefits are enormous.”
On his part, Angus Kinnear said that West Ham was a club with a fantastic heritage. He commended the partnership with FC IfeanyiUbah as having come at the right time. “We are very discerning and selective in our choice of partners.
We deal with people and organisations that share the same vision and we find that in Dr Ifeanyi Ubah. “Like he said, the partnership is limitless,” Kinnear said, adding, “we have the best academy in world football. We have vision, purpose and discipline.”
