'Salt in the soup' Man Utd derby excites Klopp

Jurgen Klopp is excited at the prospect of Liverpool’s “salt in the soup” derby against Manchester United on Sunday.

Having been appointed manager in October, Klopp missed the last clash between these two sides, which ended in a 3-1 victory for United in September.

But despite never being involved in the fixture before, Klopp is fully aware of the importance surrounding it.

“Sunday is important for the table because we are close together,” he said. “Both teams need the points. Derbies are the salt in the soup.

“It’s a special game for me and for the club. I enjoyed the atmosphere against Arsenal but I think we can do better.

On managerial rival Louis van Gaal, Klopp added: “We are different characters. He (van Gaal) is more experienced. Maybe I’m more lively on touchline.

I am not too close with the news about Man United. I watch this week the Newcastle game, and I have seen a few others. The stories around it I am not so interested in.

“Van Gaal is one of the most successful managers in the world. He has won a lot of titles, has a special idea of football, and as an opponent you have to respect this and work with the information.

“Newcastle was a special game, they did really well. United reacted good in this game. For our game, we analyse the last three games, that’s what we need. We have to watch what we can find out.”
