Germany parties too hard, damages World Cup

The football World Cup was damaged during German team celebrations and no one has owned up to it.

German Football Federation president Wolfgang Niersbach confessed the damage to newspaper Der Spiegel.

The German players, along with wives and girlfriends and fans, including pop diva Rihanna, were photographed with the Cup in the party that followed the team's 1-nil win over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This came despite Fifa having a history of allowing only winners and heads of states to handle the famous trophy. "A small piece was chipped off during the celebrations. But don't worry.

We have specialists who can repair this," Niersbach told the German news service. It seems no-one remembers how the damage occurred.

"We have investigated the incident thoroughly, but we did not get a result from that investigation," he said.

Germany was given a replica of the actual trophy.
