We are ready for Ghana – Falcons

The Super Falcons have  promised victory against   their  fierce rivals Ghana’s Black Stars  in their Cameroon 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations Group B fixture   in Limbe  on Wednesday.

Seven-time African champions Nigeria  opened  their title defence  with a 6-0 massacre of debutants Mali on Sunday, with Arsenal Ladies forward Asisat Oshoala putting her name on the scoresheet four times.

The Falcons, who are favourites to win   the AWCON title for the eighth-time,   have lifted   the trophy thrice at Ghana’s expense.

Nigeria coach Florence Omagbemi  and striker  Chioma Wogu on Tuesday declared their readiness for arguably the biggest game in the  Cameroon championship, saying the Falcons  would emerge victorious.

Omagbemi said, “We are taking on Ghana like every other team in the championship and we will approach the game with our plans. The rivalry is not our problem.”

Rivers Angels forward Wogu said the Falcons would not underestimate their opponents,  insisting they would approach the encounter like a cup final.

“We  have trained well and fully prepared for them Black Queens). The team is aiming to win every game in the tournament,”  the 17-year-old, who grabbed an assist in the 6-0 hammering of Mali, was quoted by Goal as saying on Tuesday.

“And we are not going to underrate Ghana but we will face them just like we came out against Mali.”

She added, “My ambition here is not to score goals but to help the team win every game,  but if the chance comes to score,  I will surely take it. I want to win the title with Nigeria.”
