After several weeks of expectation of bailout funds approved by the Federal government by workers in Benue State, there was a sigh of relief on Friday as the State accessed the much awaited fund.
Out of the amount, N12.5 billion will be used for payment of salaries of state civil servants while N15.5 will be for local government workers
.
A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media, to the state governor, Tereve Kase indicated that the Governor, Samuel Ortom had directed payment of the backlog of salaries to immediately.
The fund is expected to settle the salary arrears of three months owed workers by the state; February, March and April.
Akase said that the governor had set up a committee to handle the disbursement of the funds to workers without delay.
The committee, according to him was headed by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Benson Abounu while the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Targema Takema and the State Head of Service, HoS, Adaikwu Inwata are members.
Other members of the committee are the State Commissioner for Finance, representatives of academic and non-academic staff unions of the state owned tertiary institutions as well as representatives of the state chapters of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC.
The statement further added that the governor urged the committee to ensure that the payment and all matters relating to the backlog of workers' salaries are effectively addressed.
