Ezeugo tips Eagles for Chan title

Former Nigerian defender, Emeka Ezeugo has tipped the Super Eagles Team B for the podium dance at the third African Nations Championship (Chan) in South Africa. The Eagles arrived South Africa on Wednesday ahead of their first game against West African foes, Mali on Saturday in Cape Town. Other Group A opponents are hosts, South Africa and Mozambique. Ezeugo said the. Eagles had decent preparations that will give them an edge for the group qualification tickets. “I’m confident the Eagles though without some of their key players will win the championship title in South Africa. “Their preparations and build-up matches were perfect though no minnows in football any longer but I don’t see any of their group opponents disturbing them from qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition. “They maybe newcomers to the championship but certainly not greenhorns as some of them were there in South Africa when the mainstream side won the Afcon title so there won’t be stage fright,” said the former Heartland coach to supersport.com. Ezeugo said it may be a blessing in disguise for the side to be paired together with the hosts, South Africa. “The Eagles should feel comfortable playing the hosts in the group stage of the championship. “The host country usually see themselves as favourites but suffer lots of pressure to keep up the momentum mostly from the home supporters. “The Eagles just need to take advantage of it to rattle the side for the three points. I see it as an advantage instead of disadvantage playing the hosts country,” said Ezeugo. The best two sides at the group stage will qualify for the knockout stage of the biennial football showpiece for players in their respective country’s domestic leagues.
