Pacquaio: I want Mayweather rematch


  In the latest twist of one of boxing's longest-running sagas, Manny Pacquiao says he wants another crack at Floyd Mayweather before he quits the ring.


Although Mayweather has already hung up his gloves, with a 49-0 unbeaten record, this hasn't stopped his Filipino rival of dreaming of a rematch of the most lucrative bout in boxing history.

The 36-year-old is hoping for one more fight before he ends his distinguished career, having been a champion in eight weight divisions, and he insisted that Mayweather could be his opponent.

"It's possible -- very much," he told CNN World Sport at a charity event in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. "I would love to have a rematch.

Duchess Kate honours fallen soldiers

 
  A demurely dressed, but smiling Duchess Kate donned a red poppy on Saturday in honor of Britain's fallen soldiers.
With husband Prince William by her side, Kate attended the Festival of Remembrance in London, a somber affair begun after World War I that marks those who have fought for their country in past or present conflicts.
All wore red poppy pins to honor the soldiers, although the duchess wore a personalized, jeweled pin on her black lace Dolce and Gabbana dress. She and William joined Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and other members of the royal family at the event, held at Royal Albert Hall.
The queen wore a cluster of three flower pins above a stunning diamond brooch.

No large conyoys, entourage for Buhari's minister


 
 All 36 ministers in President Buhari's cabinet will be having their convoys and aides cut down. One of the ministers-designate, Chris Ngige stated this while speaking to newsmen at the end of the ministerial retreat in Abuja yesterday November 6th
"Yes, we shall operate a lean economy because we are going to block areas of leakages, retinue of aides, protocol staff, large convoys of cars are things that will not fly in this administration" he said
Reacting to President Buhari's position that some ministers will not be assigned portfolio's in his cabinet, Ngige said

    Taraba state governorship election petition tribunal has declared APC's Aisha Alhassan as the elected governor in the April 11th governorship election. The tribunal has sacked PDP's Darius Ishaka as governor of the state. Aisha Alhassan becomes the first female elected governor in Nigeria.

The Golden Eaglets take-on their Mexican counterparts in a mouth-watering semi-final battle, tagged that ‘Clash Of The Powerhouse.’

The two teams are familiar foes as they have met three times at this youth competition.

At this tournament, the Eaglets are known for their energetic and relentless attacking play spearheaded by the record-chasing front-man, Victor Osimhen, who has netted eight times for Nigeria, one short of Sinama Pongolle of France, who scored nine goals at the 2001 championship in Trinidad and Tobago.

On the other hand, Mexico are so much experienced in outclassing a high-scoring side as they were able to pocket Germany, which came into their group match with a record of eight goals in two games.

NYSC creates distress call centres for corpers


    The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Bamidele Olawunmi, has said that the agency has created distress call centres for corps members to strengthen security arrangements made for corpers across the country.

The DG said this at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State, on Thursday during his visit to the camp.

N5,000 Stipend: APC deceived Nigerians, Says PDP


   The Peoples Democratic Party says Wednesday’s rejection by the All Progressives Congress senators of the N5,000 monthly stipend for the unemployed youths, underscores the hypocrisy of the ruling party in getting to power by means of deceit and false promises to Nigerians.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, in a statement he issued in Abuja on Thursday, said that the development was a clear confirmation that the APC “is a party of hypocrites.”

One-day governor asks LASG to improve teachers welfare

The one-day Governor of Lagos State, Idowu Sonoiki, has urged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to improve the welfare of teachers in public schools.

Sonoiki was quoted as saying this when the governor hosted him at his office in Ikeja, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The statement added that Sonoiki also called on the state government to “encourage teachers and improve on their welfare for optimal performance.”

Sonoiki praised the governor for vacating his seat for him and commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the originator and founder of the Spelling Bee Competition that produced the One- Day Governor initiative.

APC Senators reject motion for unemployed youths to be paid N5k monthly allowance


  APC senators in the senate today voted against the motion for the payment of N5, 000 monthly allowance to unemployed youths in Nigeria. During today's plenary, Senator Philip Aduda PDP representing FCT, had presented the motion before the house for discussion but this was greeted with many nos from the senators. An attempt by the senate Minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, to second the motion was also shouted down.

No withdrawal without BVN, 5m accounts block by Banks



   At least five million bank accounts were deactivated by Deposit Money Banks operating in the country on Saturday night following the October 31, 2015 deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria for bank customers to register and obtain their Bank Verification Numbers, findings by our correspondents showed on Monday.

MTN denies reaching agreement with NCC



  There were reports that MTN had agreed to pay the over one trillion Naira fine slapped on them by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) ) for violating its directive on SIM deactivation.

In a statement issued yesterday by South Africa's MTN Group, they said they are still in talks with Nigerian authority about the fine "MTN continues to engage authorities in Nigeria on this matter"

Meanwhile, there are reports that FG has agreed to extend MTN's operating license, despite no agreement on the fine. (MTN Group CEO  Sifiso Dabengwa pictured above)

  The couple who did their first movie together in 10 years praised each other in a new interview to promote the movie, By The Sea, written and directed by Jolie. Speaking about her decision to undergo preventative double mastectomy in 2013, and the surgery to remove her ovaries earlier this year, Brad said;
'There was no vanity to my wife's approach,' the 51-year-old said. 'It was mature. There was a strength in that. It was just another one of those things in life that makes you tighter and she was doing it for the kids, and she was doing it for her family so we could be together.'

    One would think the 30-year old would wish for an end to the boos and whistles he gets on away grounds but no, he says it's just the tonic he needs.
"I am not the humblest person in the world, I admit that," he told The Times. "I am not fake. But I like to learn. I don't mind people hating me, because it pushes me. When I go to play away they are always against me, but it's good. You have to see the good things from the haters. I need the enemy. It is part of the business. Golden Eaglets Beat Brazil! Photos


  Nigeria’s Golden Eaglet got a step closer to their pursuit for a fifth FIFA U-17 World Cup title as they walloped their Brazilian counterparts 3-0 to advance to the semi finals.

After a 2-1 defeat against Croatia in the last group game, the Golden Eaglets bounced back to winning ways to trounce Australia 6-0 in their second round game with top scorer of the tournament  Victor Osimhen netting a treble.

Brazil scraped through its last 16 clash against New Zealand and had to improve to beat the Eaglets.

However, goals in the space of five minutes from top scorer Osimhen, Michael and Anumudu was enough for Nigeria to ease past through to the semis.
