Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mohamed Salah fire Reds to thrilling victory

It’s the big one: Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in Sunday’s late kick-off, hoping to become the first side to beat Pep Guardiola’s team in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool welcome back their star man Mohamed Salah, but Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are all out injured. A win will take Liverpool – currently level on points with Tottenham Hotspur – above Chelsea in the table.

City will meanwhile welcome back a number of players after he shuffled his pack for the club’s EFL Cup game against Bristol City. But Gabriel Jesus, Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy all remain out.  City currently enjoy a 15-point lead at the top of the table.

Post-match reaction from Jurgen Klopp

"That's how football can look if two teams combine quality and skills with attitude.

"I think we deserved the three points. I never thought we would be 4-1 up. We were never safe but I am completely happy with the result because I think it was a fair result.

"I think in 10 years you might look back at this game and say it was a historical one because it could be the only defeat for Man City. They are a really good side and I'm really proud of my boys for performing how they did tonight."

Post-match reaction from Liverpool's players

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

On ending Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League run: "It's a nice statement from us. They've been brilliant all year. We knew we had what it took to get three points today. Ultimately, it doesn't matter who we were playing, we just wanted to win today."

On scoring the opening goal of the game: "The manager keeps telling me to shoot so I gave it a go and luckily it went in."

Sadio Mane

On ending City's unbeaten run: "I think the three points was the main target. We got it and also the performance from the team was great today."

On the players' nerves when City pulled it back to 4-3 late on: "It was not easy because if you score four goals and it goes to 4-3 you're a bit scared. I think we deserved to win today."
