Nigerians spend 193 minutes on their smartphones daily

Findings have showed that Nigerians spend 193 minutes on their smartphones daily, and businesses must understand this to stay atop.

Experts have also said that leveraging the digital revolution by tapping into the power of ‘Big Data’ will help businesses stay close and understand their market better, especially in 2017.

They have equally cautioned that due to the present economic recession, companies choosing cost-cutting measures may be negatively impacted with declining value proposition.

The narratives have always been cost-cutting, but for businesses to be sustainable or defensible this year, you can’t continue to cut costs, because you are not going to be competitive in the market.

This position comes on the heels of a report by Gemalto, which indicated that 2017 would see mobile advertising spending exceeds desktop ad spending for the first time.

An earlier report released by Twinpine, a digital marketing firm, placed Nigeria ahead as the most mobile telecommunications induced nation, with 76 per cent of the Internet traffic from mobile platforms.

The report entitled: ‘Nigeria 2016 Mobile Trends Report’, read in part, “Twinpine indicated that with the total population of 184.6 million (estimated); 74.7 million unique mobile users (any type of handset); 40 per cent mobile penetration (unique users vs. population) and 30 per cent smartphone penetration rate, Nigeria is now ahead of India and South Africa with 65 per cent and 57 per cent Internet traffic coming through mobile, respectively.”
