The NDE Director-General, Mr. Kunle Obayan, gave the advice on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, at the commencement of a five-day training programme organised for unemployed graduates with passion for entrepreneurship.
Obayan said the training, which is tagged, ‘Start Your Own Business,’ was meant to expose the beneficiaries to individual prosperity and national benefits inherent in self employment.
The DG, who was represented by the Ogun State NDE Coordinator, Mr. Femi Oyenekan, said, “Most developed nations of the world did not achieve economic prosperity because of the large business corporations that exist therein, but through the very many small scale business outfits that provide meaningful employment for the majority of the populace.
“It is for this reason that the NDE encourages formation of small businesses, which have the potential of ending up as big entities depending on the commitment of the business owners.
“The purpose of the training, among others, is to ensure that participants discover the potential in them through counselling, re-orientation, entrepreneurial and managerial skills development, exposure to various viable business ideas and good sources of business funding.”
The coordinator appealed to the trainees to shift their focus from “non-existent or dwindling wage employment” and embrace entrepreneurship in order to become employers of labour.
