El Clasico: The clash of the Spanish titans today

We have another El Clasico on our hands. Real Madrid will clash with Barcelona in the La Liga match at Nou Camp on Saturday (12.00 am IST).

Leaders Barcelona are 10 points clear of their fierce rivals and closing in on a third title in four seasons. However Real’s manager Zinedine Zidane has said that Real Madrid has no added pressure before the match.

Barcelona have won this fixture at the Nou Camp 49 times, while 19 have ended in Real Madrid wins and 17 in draws.

What’s special?

The game will be Barcelona’s first outing since the death of the great Johan Cruyff, their highly influential former player and manager.

Before the match 90,000 fans will participate in a display that will read "thank you Johan.” The message will also appear on Barca jerseys.

Lionel Messi is at 499 goals in his senior career. An El Clasico match will be the best stage for his 500th.

El Clasico clashes in La Liga 2015-16

Barcelona won 2-1 on March 23, 2016.

Real Madrid won 3-1 on October 25, 2015.

Teams

Barcelona has some fearsome players on their side like Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luuis Suarez.

Real Madrid has to rely heavily on Pepe, Ronaldo and Benzema to put up a fight against Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo has had another fine season on a personal level with 41 goals to his name.

The El Clasico clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid at Camp Nou might not make much difference to the La Liga title race, but it provides a golden opportunity for one man in particular to significantly boost his reputation and credibility: Zinedine Zidane, who took charge of Real Madrid in January.

Lionel Messi makes history.
